Default XM/SIRUS Radio for 08

Hi,

Where can I get the kit to get this going? Also how hard is the install and is it even worth it?

It takes like 30-60 minutes to install, all done in the trunk, it's very, very easy.... most of the time is just the time to remove the panels in the trunk, then put em back on... the rest is literally just plug and play.

The bad news is Lexus discontinued the kit, so it's not easily available anymore.

Where is the best place to look for it? Kind of annoying that they did that...I had looked on Sewell for it and had a bad feeling when I saw discontinued.

At this point- probably ebay, or maybe the classifieds on here one might pop up... you could also try junkyards- find a wrecked IS with XM and you can probably pull the relevant bits out of the trunk pretty easily.

I would say its not worth it, ive had sirius and Xm before and after the meger. I used to listen to howard stern but he has become "soft" as he has gotten older, not the "shock jock" he once was, now its the same crap EVERY DAY with the same lame callers and the same topics over and over again....
The music was OK but i found that even on a channel i liked that i only liked a few songs so i constantly had to flip channels which becomes really annoying while you are driving.

I have everything already hooked up in my car for it and i thought about hooking it back up but when i called about it they sounded real "scammy" and wouldnt just let me get 1 month so i could see if it was still crap or not, they wanted me to pay for 3 months up front... NO THANKS!!!!

IPOD ftw!!

A kit is readily available, it is third party and offers ipod integration as well:

I love my satellite radio, but I have a kit that turns my ipod into a car mounted XM radio because I don't really care for the factory interface and this was cheaper. I don't flip stations much, it chills in my center console.

The plus to this is it's readily available, and offers some ipod integration if you have an ipod/iphone too.

The negative is it's a more extensive install that requires taking the dash apart versus simply plugging in in the trunk like the OEM tuner.

Plus, most of the non-OEM kits won't use the nice factory SAT antenna (sharkfin) and instead will require mounting an additional antenna someplace else.

These are among the reasons I always recommend the factory kit if possible, it's just unfortunate it's hard to come by anymore.
