10k Service or just ask for an oil change?
Hey all,
I currently have 9100 miles on my 2010 IS350. I plan on bringing it in for the 10k service in the next few weeks. Here is the situation...
My car received a very early oil change @ 3k because the dealership made a mistake. Since then, I've held off on the official 5k oil change till now. So basically, I'm going to use my freebie 5k oil change on the 10k service. Looking at the service schedule, I see the other stuff for this service:
Rotate tires + adjust pressure.
Replace smart key battery
Measure front brake pads and rotors.
Road test.
Inspect thickness pads and discs.
Visually inspect pads, calipers, rotors.
EDIT: The dealership I'm bringing it to is charging $170 for the 10k service (for everything listed above).
Here's what I'm unsure about... since I have a staggered setup, what are they going to do? I don't think its possible to rotate my tires.. Correct?
Of the other things listed, it's mainly inspection and stuff... is it really necessary at 10k or is it just another money maker for them?
Yes, I know an oil change is DIY, but I'm not too car saavy and I have this free oil change waiting for me. So I'm definitely going to bring it to the dealership for this one.
So my main question is... what should I ask for when I bring my car in at 9-10k?
Thanks!

Just ask for the oil change. It's all you need.
Rotate tires + adjust pressure - Like you said, they are staggered. Adjust pressure? Takes you a couple mins to check/do on your own.
Replace smart key battery - At 10k? O_O
Road test - No thanks, don't need someone else driving the car around. If there's issues, you'll find out yourself.
Inspect thickness pads and discs/Visually inspect pads, calipers, rotors/Measure front brake pads and rotors- Brakes should be fine at 10k.

I also agree just get the oil change, the rest is just a scam to make u feel like you are getting something for that extra money... Id be very interested to find out what was actually done vs what was supposed to be done...
I highly doubt a tech would take the time to pull the rims off and mic the pads/rotors at 10k miles especially if no rotation was required, also id be willig to bet the remote battery doesnt get changed either id love to put a mark on it and check it afterwards..... And im damn sure not paying extra for some 17 year old car wash kid to hot rod my car around the block.

Yeah, I was about to ask... they say they will "inspect" this and that.. but who knows if it's actually done. I can be quite the skeptic sometimes.
Since this thread is still active, I am also wondering what others are being charged just for the oil change? My particular dealing is charging $70 (synthetic oil). Just want to get an idea of what's being charged out there so that on my next oil change, I know what to expect.

I sat and waited and they never drove my car around the block the minute it came out of the garage I watched them drive it right to me. I am **** when it comes to that.

Wow there clown.... I did that just to have a piece of mind that everything was good to go as I just came back from a long trip. Plus I don't know about you but i would rather pay $10 for me to know that everything on my car is good.
