Default Using the Ashtray for my iPhone

I recently started a thread about creating a custom ashtray dock for using with your VAISTECH SL2iC and I got a number of requests about an ash tray replacement without a dock...

As much as I'd love taking money from everyone, it's a lot simpler to get a quick fix. All you have to do is remove the metal part of your ashtray and you have plenty of space to drop your phone in right next to your charger! And you don't have to take up a cup holder any more.

You'll note the two "slots" in photo 1 to either side of the metal part. Simply insert a very small screw driver in here (or anything metal that is strong) and push the screwdriver back and down like in photo 2. repeat for the other side and voila... you can pull out the metal tab!

If you're interested in iPhone/iPod integration, see my other thread below..

I'm gonna try this. Too many instances when my phone takes up a cup holder spot and my drink ends up sitting inside the faux-alcantara lined console - and if I leave my phone inside the console I'd forget it. -_-

Thank you so much for this tip. I tried, with no luck, to find one of the non-smoker boxes. I did this today thanks to your advice, and am much happier with the end result.

It is an SC430. Still, the fix worked.

Wish I could have. The prior owner melted the area under the ashtray, so I had to buy a replacement ashtray, and then removed this metal piece. It was driving me crazy to have it warped. But yep, your way is definitely easier.

Same here. There's also more space to place coins or small items like a gate remote..

Can't you program the rear view mirror to operate the gate?

You can... The property's gate remote however is not compatible with the car's homelink. So w/o the ashtray, the small remote fits perfectly w/ room to spare for a mobile phone, of any size at that.

I noticed if you take out the ashtray it's the perfect size for putting my cigarette box in.
..and lighter.

I Was able to just pull out the chrome piece by hand. Lol. I love it. Bottle of water in the cupholder, phone in the ashtray.
