Default Oil Changes -

Just wondering which I should go by...

Using Mobile One Synthetic which I believe says 7500 miles between changes but I think Lexus says it should be done 5000 miles... is there a reason they would call out for this?... I plan on checking the oil after work, and I assume it will still look just fine.

Just wondering what miles/time intervals you guys are using when running synthetic oil

Thanks

5000 for synthetic? sounds excessive...

pretty sure 5000 is the modern interval for dino oil.

Thats what I was thinking... Thats all I've ever used (didn't know what the previous owner had done so I figured better be safe and good with synthetic, but I just hit 5k since my first change and now am wondering should I do it again this week or push on to 7500 and see.

Usually wouldn't care, but this is my first "nice" car and I just want to make sure I'm doing things right

Free is even cheaper.

You're literally pouring money down a drain changing synthetic every 5k in normal driving.

This has been proven over and over and over with every used oil analysis I've ever seen on a 2IS.

In normal (ie non-severe-duty) driving there's no reason whatsoever to change any sooner than 10k miles (and most folks can safely go longer than that.. but UOA is the only way to be sure how much longer)

I have been doing 10K on Mobil 1. I do have to top off somewhere in the middle of that interval or else the oil runs low. A dollar saved is a dollar earned

Costco has a 6 pack of Mobil 1 for $36. All you need to do is buy 1 at the auto parts store and a filter from Sewell.

The color of your oil has nothing to do with the condition of your oil.... you can't tell how good a shape it's in by looking at it.

UOA is the only way to know how much life your oil has left in it (but assuming normal driving it had a lot more left in it after a 5k change)

Walmart sells Mobile 1 full synthetic in a 5 qt jug for $24.50. I usually buy 3 and change the wifes car and still have some left, (then I only need two the next time).

I usually change mine twice a year with full synthetic, though I am debating on changing to every 9 months or possibly just once a year.

My brother, who is a service manager at a toyota dealer only changes his once a year with the cheap stuff, he is convinced that its all it needs.

what are you guys using for oil? I can't find the "required" 0w-20 anywhere Some Wal-marts carry 0w-30 but not the 0w-20

I use the 0w-30, I'm not an oil expert but I dont think it will harm your engine. It should provide even greater protection right???

When I had my S2000 I did some research because I only put about 4-5000mi on it a year. Most people say to change it once a year regardless of mileage because the additives in the oil can start to lose their effectiveness after one year.

I wouldnt go past a year, just to be safe.

But I'm sure some (honda/toyota) driver out there has gone 100k and 6 years without changing thier oil and their car is probably still running.
