Default Water Pump Change 07-IS250

Wanted to add comments -after replacing my water pump on IS-2007: Did it because we had coolant leaks and finally grinding noise in front top of engine. Had leaks at 65K, and replaced pump at 88K with no coolant in reservoir-bad move.

1) No AC compressor removal needed. Fer sure.
2) Draining antifreeze is a mess. Most came out when pump came out-YUK all over floor.
3) After removing guards-electronic driver, coolant reservoir (didn't remove engine floor pan-but oil filter access door) other parts etc -SEE PDF in previous post. Loosen slightly 4 bolts from pump pulley while belt is on, and give ratchet a quick pop to loosen. Watch knuckles! Belt helps to hold pulley. Remove pulley after taking belt out.
4) Remove Belt while moving tensioner with 14mm socket wrench to loosen.
5) There are holes on belt tensioner that align and lets you lock it with a 6mm bolt or screwdriver thru. Then remove tensioner pulley LEFT HAND THREAD -righty-loosy!!. Don't damage this expensive part! with mucho torque. (Could not get one bolt out due to tensioner pulley, so it needed removal.)
6) Be careful not to damage hoses while loosening them (cuts with sharp objects or pliers)
7) Replaced water pump, and belt. Idlers looked good, but it would be great if someone would suggest while taking all apart, exactly what parts are recommended to change at this time.

I hope this adds to the wonderful info I received here at forum before doing this work myself!

Am in the process of replacing my water pump. Have removed the old pump and noticed that the gasket is metal and lacks any kind of adhesive. This is my first encounter of a gasket like this. When I install the new pump and gasket, is the gasket to be installed without adhesive?

Correct, install the gasket without any adhesives. Just make sure to torque it to correct specs.

No, you don't need to drain the engine oil.

Downloaded this DIY, looks freakin great. There has been a gradual noise coming from the front end of my '08 IS250 AWD which I THINK, based on the descriptions in this thread, has to do with the water pump. My question is, will the DIY posted by Iceman5210 be of use to me if I choose to replace the water pump on my 08 is250 awd myself?

Thanks in advance ya'll

It's a 3 part series. He takes less than 2 hours. He's never done it before, but he's pretty knowledgeable. Looks pretty easy if you ask m I'm doing mine on Sunday...let you know how it goes.

Hi.... I know everyone asks about this do it yourself. I saw this video and it was very well detailed.
What drove me to look for this, is that I took my 06 IS250 in for the "possible fuel leak" recall they had. So while its there, they tell me that the water pump is starting to leak. I asked how much to fix it, and they said $900 for parts and labor. I just looked up the water pump and goes for around $140. So the total price does not make sense.
Anyways... I did some research and I found this video. Hope it helps everyone.

Thanks for the link Nikkon. I wonder if the water pump DIY would be the same for IS350 also

Just replaced my water pump, thermostat, and cap this past weekend on my 2008 IS350. Exactly the same as the IS250. Easy took me 3 hours just because I was being extra careful. And bleeding the coolant took awhile too for the engine to warm up.
