Default Can I combine all season tires w/ summer tires?

So my front tires on my stock 18" IS350 rims, which are currently summer tires (Toyo T1R's), need to be replaced but my back tires (also T1R's) are fine. I want to switch to some all season tires. Is it alright if I put Toyo Proxes 4 (an all season) on the front and kept my back tires as summer T1R's?

they usually recommend that whenever you get only 2 new tires, to put them on the back wheels (due to risk of spin out) but I'm guessing you have 255's or bigger back there in which case, they can't go up front.

If you have 235 or smaller you can probably just mount them on your front rims and put the new all seasons on the back.

From what i hear, that's fine. I've only heard that it shouldn't be done if you have 2 different tread patterns on opposite sides. So as long as your replacing in sets of 2 it should be fine. But i'm no tire expert

Usually you get a better price if you buy tires in a set of 4 though. I always get a better price that way, and if you ask, they usually give you something back for your old tire if its still good (they are just going to sell it someone who will sell it used anyways)

I got 225/40/18's on my old car (Toyo Proxes 4). They gave me the 4th tire for less than 50% of the cost + i got $17 each for two tires that were still good.

Yea, I have the staggered setup so no go on that. Also, my back tires still have A LOT of life left so kind of too soon to get rid of tires...especially since the 255/40/18 T1R's cost me so much. I'm thinking I'll just try switching out the front tires for the Toyo Proxes 4 and then switch the backs out for the same when the time comes.

Like I said I wouldn't.
The handling of a vehicle can become unbalanced in adverse weather conditions or in an emergency.

You CAN do it but when your in a ditch because the rear came around on you don't complain.

summer tires are better in the rain than all season's so it may not be a big issue. Just be careful and adjust your driving to suit the conditions until you know what you can and can't do...

I'm assuming you have a set of winter tires and won't be using this setup with snow on the ground...

i dont see a problem when its dry but during the rain my advice to u is not to go over 70 mph on the freeway. as you may hydroplane and may effect your car oddly due to different rubbers/friction with the ground.

Might also want to fix your alignment so you don't burn through fronts 2x as fast as rears

Kurtz when you say fix your alignment are you referring to camber adjustment? Is it something specific that dealer can adjust or are we talking aftermarket parts?

My dealership is offering alignment for 99 bucks for a limited time and was thinking I could get it done after I switch back to my summer rims in a couple weeks...

toe actually, not camber (the RWD IS has no camber adjustment)...which is usually why folks have the fronts shred in 15-20k. Do a search and you'll find a buncha threads on this.

I wouldn't trust the dealer to do it as it's the factory alignment that's usually the problem.

should be fine. I just did extensive research on tires, it may handle weirder in dry pavement and the rain because of the different tread pattern.
