Default Hid Kits: 35W, 55W, 75W Or 100W?

upgraded my halogen projector headlights to xenon about 6 months ago.
In my other car, Alfa Romeo 156 selespeed i had some cheap chinese ones but this time, on my new car i bought an original, german made philips kit with 35w and 6000k colour.

http://cgi.ebay.de/PHILIPS-H11-XENON...item45f6029af8

The difference initially was huge but 6 months later and when i compare it with the light output of some modern BMWs or some other Lexus models which have xenon as standard, mine is way less. I mean it is not so strong when there is some other sources of light around.
In complete darkness they are very good.

So I'm thinking of changing the kit i have now (35w) to a 55w or maybe to a 75w.
Has anybody tried anything higher than 35watts?

The 55w I guess will produce the same ammount of heat as the standard halogen bulbs but I'm a bit worried about the 75w. I'm not even considering the 100w kit...

Any comments/feedback will be highly appreciated.

Rgds

I didn't know there's 75w HID kits..who makes them? Have to be careful with it, they might melt something in your headlight.

I was tempted to put on DDM's 55w kit, but I heard someone had issues of melting plastic.

Have you tried bulbs in the 4000k-5000k range for better light output? I heard the whiter light illuminates better. I have 6000k in mine, a little too blue for me, gonna give 5000k a shot.

SteemInjen,

That would probably depend on which white because there are 6000K which do appear white. Ie. like my Philips Ultinon 6000K which is white.

It may also be because of your halogen projector. Xenon projectors have cleaner cutoffs.

IMO, stick with 35W unless you're running OEM bulbs. Even with OEM bulbs, the most I would put would be 55W ballasts. But I'd probably still go with 35W anyways.

Thanks for the feedback.

Are you sure about that? I have opened a few projectors for previous projects in the past and I didn't notice any difference. There is just a aluminium plate between the area where the bulb sits and the glass part.

I'm thinking about the 75w kit and i would hard wire it with a relay kit and thicker cables directly from the battery.

I have had 4500k, 8000k and finally decided for the 6000k kit.

The color is very good, it is pure white and it depends on the manufacturer specially if it a low, medium quality kit. The philips kit i have is very good quality but it is the light output that i'm not satisfied with.

Has anybody tried a 70/75w kit? They are available at alibaba and ebay

This is what Steve from xenondepot said in another thread. maybe it'll help you.

While 55W HID kits do emit slightly more light output (approx 15%), the additional light output does not necessarily translate into functional light output as you will find that 55W kits do not provide as even of a light spread as 35W kits.

Get 200w, definitely. The more the people flash you, the better you know your output is.

they reason no one has probably tried them is because its not recommended. im willing to bet within the first few months you'll melt the harness and fyi its not cheap to replace.
