If possible, buy the auto 350 and then get yourself a project to satisfy your manual and modding needs.

I love my 6 speed. Yeah its not fast but its not meant to be. Its fast enough and since its a luxury car you wouldnt be speeding anyways. Its also getting more rare. I can not ever drive an auto car ever again. Stick shift for life.

I have a 350 and I do miss having a manual trasmission but I'd never considered the 250. For me the choice is 350 auto / 335i manual.

Bumper to bumper traffic auto is350. I'll take the power over standard. If I miss driving a standard I can always get an integra.

Not a fan of the IS250's clutch.

The release feels different ever shift, so driving smoothly will be a learning curve.

So......get a 350!

I disagree, the clutch pedal feels fantastic. It has a nice weight, and the friction point is always in the same spot. I've driven some auto-adjusting clutches before where the friction point moves and it is quite frustrating.

I think what you are probably referring to, and what can cause some issues when you first drive it (stalling, etc.), is the extremely heavy duall-mass flywheel. It can really throw you off, because you pull the clutch out too quickly due to the low off-idle acceleration. More gas needs to be given than in many other cars to get smooth off-the-line.

After driving for a few days you get used to it, just like the irregularities in most clutch setups (every car is different).

The manual in the IS250 is far from perfect, but still a joy to drive. I would have preferred a conventional flywheel, but now that I'm used to it, I don't even notice it, unless I get into my AE86 or my old XRS, then I rev the crap out of it on the first launch without realizing it. Haha.

All that being said, if you want a fast car, get the IS350. The IS250 is no slouch compared to a lot of cars on the road (especially with the M/T, it feels a lot more responsive when you can immediately choose your desired gear), however it is in NO way a fast car. It's enough power for me though.

(PS: As for the MKIV Supra 6-speed, despite the V160/161 being capable of holding a lot of power -- the Getrag is very well designed, it still has a very clunky shifter, and the same dual-mass flywheel/pull-type clutch setup as the IS250 6MT. It quite similar in actual driving feel, despite the Getrag being a far superior transmission to the Aisin.)

Jeff

You want the power get the 350 man... I'm personally to lazy to switch gears in traffic. So I went with auto. I do enjoy riding my bike which is manual, but for every day drivin AUTO for me.

I can understand where your coming from with the flywheel.

I'm also just use to the low pedal release and torque of my T/A WS/6.

I considered a 2008 IS 250 with six speed. I drove it and had no complaints with the amount of or lack of power. Same with the six speed. After spending time on several of the Lexus forums, the consensus was get a IS 350 rather than a IS 250 for more power. Almost all the comments regarding the six speed were negative. I finally decided on a 2011 IS 350 F-Sport. I wasn't thrilled with a automatic, but I've adapted well. The IS 350 has plenty of power and I'm happy with my choice, automatic included.
