Yes, just like tonight as I'm doing MAYBE 10mph up to a red light I would just stomp on them and lock them up.. when abs kicked on and I was now not stopping in the slightest I locked up the two rear wheels via the emergency brake and guess what.. stopped quickly.
Yes--had 10 inches this past Tuesday. Sure--the car has longer stopping distances than on dry pavement, but it was not a problem at all. And I'm on Michellin MXM all seasons, not winter tires.

I'm just not sure how ABS takes away your traction.

While I appreciate the quote you have provided, that appears to me to be one person's opinion, rather than an actual scientific study. If what you are saying is true, I firmly believe that in the 25 years that ABS systems have been available to the market place, the option you are suggesting would be widely available.

I grew up in Connecticut at a time before ABS. With RWD and snow tires, let me tell you, trying to stop the car without ABS was no picnic.

I actually have the same problem with my ABS on my 08 IS250 RWD, the way ABS clamp and release is not efficient at all, while my VW GLI , a FWD with exactly same winter tire, same size 225/45/17 can stop a lot shorter.

The VW and a MB that i drove kind of pumps the ABS very frequently, while the Lexus or any Toyota ABS just take their time to clamp and release the brakes, which make the braking distance further.
