Default 2010 IS 250: Playing iPod content from iPhone via USB

On my newly acquired slightly used 2010 IS 250 AWD, I tried to play some audio content (lectures and music) off my iPhone 3Gs connected to the 2010 IS 250 via the USB port in the central console, but I kept hearing what sounded like static electricity discharges while playing such content. The iPhone was also paired with the car's Navigation-based Bluetooth system. The music and speech sounded like there was a bad ground in one of the speakers, except that the problem was present regardless of which side of the car I tried to shift the sound. When I listened to FM or satellite radio, there was no problem. I have not yet tried to play a CD.

When I plug the iPhone 3Gs into the USB port of my 2010 Lexus IS 250, the iPhone has a pop-up message saying that this "accessory" is not designed for the iPhone, and there may be interference from the wireless signal or diminished wireless reception (or something to that effect). I wonder if this is a known problem or if I have a defective USB connection in my car.

Thanks!

Well, I did some more testing today. When I played the same content from my iPod via the same USB cable plugged into the USB port on the 2010 IS 250 AWD, there was absolutely no static. Then I plugged my iPhone in again, and the same content had a significant amount of static. What could this be? Defective iPhone? I guess I can try to play the same content off my wife's iPhone and see if it has any static.

Does your iPhone say you're on a 3G network, or are you on the EDGE or GPRS network. It is very common to have static if you are one of the older networks, if you are on 3G you should have no problem. Try going into airplane mode if you are on EDGE or GPRS, and see if that solves the problem.

I actually did go to the airplane mode, and I had the same static when playing content from the iPhone. I am mostly on 3G, though.

I've hooked up my iPhone 4 and got that same message, but didn't have any static. I'm 75% sure the Bluetooth was turned off on the phone.
