IS 350 or 250 performance in winter snow.

I came from a GS300 (RWD) which was pretty bad in heavy snow and I now have an IS250. We got SLAMMED with snow here in Cleveland last week and I had ZERO problems in my 250. My GS always got stuck going up my steep driveway with a foot of snow on the ground where the IS just cruises through it. I'm sold on the AWD of the 250. Hope this helps.

^I am also curious about this as my buddy has a IS300 (similar cars GS and IS300's) and with snow tires it's awesome in the winter. It was the first RWD car in winter I tried and as long as traction control is on it will do for anything that's 4-5 inches or less (never tried it with more snow).

Well since the 350's are rwd, I would go with a awd 250. I have a rwd 250...I live in the midwest and welllllll...snow is not exactly my friend hahaha.
I thought about selling my car because the thought of snow covered roads with my rwd scared me...but, I'm in love with my wheels. I say...the spring, summer and fall months make up for the snowy months. Just my opinion and an answer you'll have to find for yourself and your situation.
But since you live in Canada, and I think of Canada as the arctic (although I may be way off on that)...I would go with a awd 250. A close friend of mine has the awd and LOVES it. Says it's a beast in the snow

As in RWD+snow tires>AWD with all seasons.
It never ceases to amaze me how little importance people seem to think tires have, when they're probably the single most important thing on the car that you can easily change.
100% of your cars interaction with the road is via those tires. Braking, handling, acceleration, etc...
Snow tires stop and accelerate about 25% better than all-seasons in the snow... and a stupidly large % better than summer tires in the snow.

My 350 with just the continental DWS's does very well in the snow. I took my car snowboarding last saturday and there are many more trips to come this season. I'm going to Killington tomorrow in VT, but taking my (gf/kind of exgf)'s FX35.

I agree with the poster above that the tires are the single most important element in winter driving. You will have a completely different car when you put good snow tires on. Even if someone reading this has the AWD snow tires are still a must.

I have IS350 with Blizzak WS-60's and NO problem whatsoever in any snow! I got stuck last week when we had 8 inches of snow and I still didnt get my snow tires on and barely made it to the Tire shop, couldnt stop or go... or even stay straight on the road...
Got my Blizzaks on and I felt like a king of the road! Put in Snow mode and good to go!
