I just replaced one myself 5 days ago on wife's 2006 IS350.

Pretty straight forward. The cluster is held in place with 2 plastic screws that you can see in the inside top of cluster and 2 metal screws behind the plastic panel under the cluster.

1) Remove the 2 plastic screws on the inside top of the cluster
2) Pry out the small panel of where the econ/sport/traction control buttons are located. The one under the ignition start button. Unplug the connectors once the panel is pryed out and set aside.
3) You should be able to pull the main plastic panel out now that the small panel removed in step 2 was snapped into. I just tugged firmly and it popped out.
4) There are connectors on the left side of the panel that you just yanked off, I just left it dangling there, so didn't remove the panel all the way.
5) Now you should be able to see the 2 lower screws (metal) for the cluster. Unscrew.
6) Remove the black "plastic fascia ring" in front of the cluster. It's the one that has a rectangular cloth at the bottom to cover up the steering column for looks. You can unhinge the cloth from the "fascia ring" it's held in place via 3 friction points.
7) Pull out cluster and disconnect the 2 plugs. It helps to have the steering wheel all the way down and out at this point.

Took me about 15 min for uninstall and install. New cluster does not display your actual mileage, only the one that is installed.

Hope this helps.....

Oh yes because the memory is recorded on that cluster. I wonder if it was done at the dealer, I assume they might have some kind of special device to transfer the mileage over to the new cluster therefore you can continue with the proper mileage being recorded.

I have an '06 IS350 with 85K miles and the speedomter needle light went out. I have the 7-year 100,000K extended warranty with United Auto which I purchased when I bought the car new. The dealer said it is not covered under the extended warranty because it's a light bulb. Any suggestion?

His extended warranty is from United Auto, they are going to be the ones that would authorize replacement. Not Lexus.

I had mine whole cluster replaced under basic warranty with 1 dim spot; I thought was kinda wasteful if they can repair it ...

Anyways, you can try repair it yourself with this:

So for the rest of use we are doomed if we don't dare to open the cluster.

Nope, we repair them. Send it in and we will take care of it.

If you can't wait around, we offer same day service with overnight shipping.
