Default should i remove the clear protection film/bra?

2010 lexus is250. obsideon black

not sure what it's called but it's like a plastic film covering the front quarter of the hood and there's some on the side mirrors and rear bumper

the debate:
2 of my uncles said if i don't take it off, the film will eventually come off on its own and my black paint will be 2 diff shades due to the sun.
my dad (body mechanic) says it won't ever come off on its own. any experience on this? any kind of reply would be great

People pay extra to put those on, +1 on keeping them on...

Mine has been on since 06 and it's no where close to coming off. It has turned yellow though.

keep it on. it might not exactly have the same look as the non covered portion of the car, especially on the hood, but it'll orotect against those rock chips or any debris that you may encounter when driving. the only downside is that it would need to be replaced after a couple of years due to yellowing. but paint protection now, though expensive, is well worth it IMO. i dont see how it would come off on its own, however.

+1 for keeping it on. I wish I had one put on when I first bought the car.

sweet! thanks for the replies guys. some of my friends 'think' it would come off on its own (i guess the idea comes from phone protectors, although pretty irrelevent) lol. i will keep it on then. I believe i have a one year warranty on it too so perhaps i will have it replaced before the warranty goes out

It definitely wont come off on its own, but if you ever decide to take it off i could see there being a color difference. I would leave it on and not worry about it.

I'd keep it on. I've been thinking about getting one for the front of my car and the rear near the trunk. They're kind of pricey but worth it

Mine has been on for over 4 years and it's not comeing off anytime soon. If you already have one on, leave it on and let it protect your car.

keep it on. 1. its about $250-400 depends on who puts it on. 2. it protects your paint a lot and easy to clean bugs/tard off of. 3. its a pain in the *** to take off unless you know what your doing and have a heat gun

Here is a cut and paste of my email to Areotect:

Hi Jeff, Depending on the type of film we applied at the time, removal can sometimes be a little difficult. You can start by warming it up… (just park it outside for the afternoon on a day like this). That should help soften the adhesive and film for easier removal. Once you’re ready, just start lifting at a corner, and peel slowly. If it’s 3M Scotchgard, it may take longer to remove. If there is any residue left behind, you could use a general purpose adhesive remover to assist in cleaning it up. You can expect the paint underneath to be in great shape once you remove the clear bra. We can’t guarantee any results on aftermarket/non factory paint.

Hope this helps.

Thank you,

I saw these on my 2008 when i bought it 2 months ago.. but i dont have them on the hood.. just random places on the bumpers and behind the tires..

I picked at one they dont seam like they are going anywhere even if i try to take them off..

I say leave them on.. Protects the paint..
