Default DIY Side skirt removal

Hey everyone, here is a diy on how to remove the side skirt with pictures! I have an 08 lexus but it should be the same for the new is'. Sewell has detailed instructions but here are pictures to help. It's really easy to do. Here you go:

First you have to remove the two clips from the rear that hold that guard thing on. Once you remove those two clips, the guard can be pushed aside. It will not completely come off because there is one more 10mm bolt holding it in towards the inside of the wheel well.

Next you have to remove the single 10mm bolt that is on the rear that holds the side skirt in place inside the wheel well...

and on the front of the wheel well.

Once those are off, you have to take the seven locking clips off from underneath the side skirt.

After those clips are off, grab a philips screwdriver and there are two screws that are holding the side skirt on from inside the door. There is one by the front door and one in the rear passenger door. You have to pull the weather stripping down to reveal the hole which houses the screw.

Now you can proceed to pull the side skirt off. Start from the rear and pull the skirt towards you. There are several white clips holding it in on the side.

Here is the old side skirt off on the right and the new (to me) gfx side skirt on the left.

Alright, now you have to take the old weatherstripping from the old side skirt and put it on the new side skirt. The weather stripping is held on by little black clips. I used needle nose pliers and pinched the two sides and pushed it into the hole to minimize breakage of the clips.

Now just do everything in reverse to place the new side skirt in except for one step. I would screw in those two screws in the door jamb before popping the weatherstripping in just to make it easier for yourself.

And you're done!

Nice write up. You know these GFX side skirts have been out forever and I still can't tell them apart from the OEM ones.

Awesome write up! You made it look pretty easy. Wonder if it's the same for a 2006 IS?

This is a great write up. I've been planning on replacing one of mine in a few months due to some pretty bad rash on it from the previous owner.

Bookmarked!

You have to see it in person. They flare out more than the OEM, slightly.

Your welcome everyone. Thanks for the positive comments. Yeah, I can hardly tell the difference except when I get out of the car. That's when I notice they flare out more.

Hey Rizon25! Where did you get the blue tool from to help pop out the clips? I usually use a flat head screw driver but depending on where the clip is located, a flat head doesn't always work.

Try Harbor Freight. They have a full car clip packet for $10 or cheaper

Auto zone also sells a trim remover. Black tool with a red handle. Beats the blue plastic ones any day for removing clips
