Oil change - extra oil and filter necessary?
2008 IS250
When I take my car in for an oil change, they always charge for "extra oil" ($6) and an oil filter ($10). Does the IS250 really take more oil than other cars, and do I need a new oil filter every time?

its a rule of thumb, everytime you change oil you change your filter so, yes.
and yes our cars do take more oil than normal cars, but nowdays everyone takes more oil too, not the 'normal 5quarts'.

It is a requirement that you change your filter when you change your oil. The filter is what traps the dirt and other particles that can damage the engine. If you disassmble an old filter you will see what I mean. You'll see tiny metal pieces and other junk trapped in the filter.
If you re-use your old oil filter, then it's like re-using toilet paper. Simple as that.

Do you have to change the filter every time you change your oil? Absolutely not. Should you? Oh yeah!!!!
The place you took your car probably advertises their oil change price for a 4 cylinder car.
