Default IS350 Volume control(****)

Thought I would post this new discovery...For over 2 years been having little issue with the volume on the radio not working off and on. When it stops working, I fiddle with it a few minutes and it would start working again....whenever I took it into Lexus for oil changes I would tell them, but it would always work fine.....then I realized it only happened when it was hot and humid...so this time I had them leave the car outside in the sun, and voila, it stopped working and they are covering it under warranty, since I have been telling them about it for years....

(Just in case it helps anyone else who has a dealer that thinks you pull this stuff out of the air for fun!!)

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM OMG!!
I keep bringing it to the dealership trying to get them to replace it under warranty, but whenever they're around, it always seems to work...
I hate it how you have to prove it to them that it doesn't work. I am just going to film it when it doesn't work and have that be the proof.. I've had it since last summer, I've had my car parked out in the sun more and I think it has to do with the heat and the wiring or the potentiometer and the **** not fully engaging with it. Honestly a small part <$10 or $15.

hrm

I had a problem with my volume control ****, it wouldn't go exactly with the volume level. It would skip numbers or not even get loud when I turn the ****. Is that the issue you're talking about?

I asked my dealership about this and they said the only thing is to replaced the whole radio unit. I was like ok.

BUT it still does. it. It's doesn't CATCH the volume its 'more "slippery" dunno how to describe it. Not a clean turn.

Just off topic a bit. I just bought a used IS250 from a dealer. The volume **** was missing from the car. The dealer told they are going to fix it once I put a deposit $500. Then I bought it and they promised to send me the **** to my house.

However, after waiting for about 3 weeks, I still had not received the ****. So I went back to the dealer. It turned out that Lexus did not sell the **** separately. You must buy the whole stereo assembly for $2000. The dealer was not going to honor their promise had they not signed "We Owe" paper (I made them signed it since I never trust car dealers).

So they took it off from other IS cars on the lot using flat screwdriver. Can you guys imagine that!?! I was so lucky that I got "We Owe" paper...

Sorry for going off topic.FYI I guess. But lucky I dont have this issue.

Luckily they are going to just replace the whole head unit, so no worries about them just tinkering around with it.
Related to the radio, I have wanted that Vaistech unit for my my ipod, for months, but am too chicken to do it myself, (if I order it, I can;t just leave it sit around waiting for Lexus, so I would have screwed up my vents no doubt...) been trying to align the stars with Lexus changing the radio, and buying that unit for the ipod, and having Lexus dropping that plug in the back for my ipod....now Vaistech wants full price, so looks like I am gonna just have to be happy with a new radio!! lol

I don't know if that dealer was trying to scare me off or hiding the fact that they forgot to buy it or thinking that I would not come back for the volume ****.

But $2000 sounds ridiculous. I guess I will make a trip to junk yards if I need to swap my stereo.

Just happened to my radio also. Strange thing is that regardless of the weather being hot and humid, it would still act up. Some days I can't hear anything and some days it would work.

Apparently, if I want to take it to lexus i would have to prove to them that it doesn't work, but they won't touch it unless it does not work on the day that I take it to them.

I found a couple varying threads on this issue. Someone reported that its the volume pot **** and the fix is a simple solder to the board in the radio. No other details but it seems there are several Toyota radios floating around with this issue that develops over time. My 06 started doing this very rarely...in just the past few weeks it was doing it every other day or so. I'm really starting to get annoyed and warranty is long gone. Any one know of the 'sure' fix here?
