Carbon fiber trunk? no.
I thought about it, but to take all my "junk" out and re-install would take oodles of time.

I thought I'd template out the shape and have my buddy cut it out of 6061 aluminum plate on his CNC machine, then wrap it in 3M CF vinyl (or whatever, powder-coat, bang can, etc). Pre-drill the holes for the nuts/bolts, and also use turnbuckle style mounts.

Open for discussion, feedback welcome!

Dammit, I remember just a few days ago seeing a website where a guy did the exact same thing. If I can relocate it. I'll throw you a link

Nice find man. Kinda similar to what I was thinking - yeah. I would likely want to get a little more creative with the shape etc... I'll probably also want to integrate some APR rods.

You actually now got me thinking I'll tackle this in the next little while. I'll post if I decide to

Cheers!

Yeah, it seems like it'd be VERY cost effective and you could, essentially, shape it to your liking. Then wrap it in vinyl of your choice (even carbon fiber wrap would look ok way down there unless you have other REAL carbon fiber on your car also)

So.

Today i was driving on a highway (with stoplights, not an interstate) and I was in a construction zone on the side that WASNT under construction. I was about the 3'd or fourth car back from the stoplight. It turned green...a big truck in front of me. Suddenly I come up on a seriously jacked up section of the road at about 10 miles per hour. It broke one of my new splitters in half...ripped off the brand new gfx lip i just put on and pulled the support rods from the bumper, ripping the washer from the rear out and leaving to big *** holes in my bumper.

What a bummer.

I'm going to contact the department of transportation. Surely they need to be held liable for damage caused my a serious jacked up road. I am low...but no lower than say, a stock corvette or any exotic sports car. I took pics of the road and of all the damage (even ripped all the tabs on the lip..and some of my fender lining along with my bumper, splitters, etc. etc.).

LOL! I guess you just answered your own question to the title of this thread!

Still wondering why you would put this mod on a luxury car, much less a 250, much less a car that will and should never see a race track?

But to each his own I guess...

Well..I dont consider an IS much of a luxury car. If i wanted to buy a car for it's luxury/comfort I'd have an LS if a lexus.

And it was not for function. No spliters on any IS250 or even 350 would be for a functional goal of downforce.
