heartmyis is correct. Although the original owner might have purchased the extended warranty and that might explain why it is still under "warranty" even though it exceeds the 50k miles or 4 years. You can ask for a copy of the receipt to verify how much warranty is still left on the car. I think there is a platinum Lexus warranty that extends the warranty up to 7 years of 100k miles. hope this helps =)

Quick correction on extended warranty-
Assuming you want the LEXUS extended warranty it must be purchased while the car is still within the original factory warranty period (which is 4 yr/50k miles, whichever comes first).
For 2007 and newer models you're fine for at least a couple more months to only worry about mileage being under 50k. For 2006 cars you will need to know the in-service date (the date the car was originally sold) to know if it's past 4 years yet.
Starting around august/september timeframe of this year you'd need to start worrying about the in-service date on 2007 cars since they would've first been for sale fall of 06.

No- you (I did) can buy the extended after the factory (well- at 53000 miles) is over. '06 with 53k miles, bought a month ago. Bought gold warranty (covers essentially all non electronic-toy stuff- Platinum would cover everything and be the same as CPO from what I understand). $$ tho... Maybe because it was still in the powertrain warranty?

New Lexus Vehicles
Lexus vehicles are eligible for a “New Vehicle” VSA for 48 months or 50,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the Agreement Effective Date.
Lexus vehicles are eligible for a “New Vehicle” VSA for 48 months or 50,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the Agreement Effective Date.
And if you click on "gold plan" up top there you'll see it's same eligibility... 48 months or 50k miles.
So if your dealer sold you one at 53k miles he made a mistake...unless he sold you a used car warranty...
It DOES mention there a used car VSA that you'd have qualified for...coverage is different than the new vehicle one though.

Note where it mentions you must buy the used one at time of used vehicle sale- the new car one you can buy anytime in the first 48 mo/50k miles of ownership.

My IS is coming up to 4 years old and I called the Lexus dealer today to inquire about a VSA from then. They quoted me a price for the Platinum plan for an additional 48 mos. I asked if it was valid at any Lexus dealer and they said yes, but if I took it to any dealer other than the one I bought it from there was a $100 deductible. Is this correct? I thought a VSA bought from Lexus was valid at any USA dealer without an additional surcharge. What gives here or what am I missing?

Lexus disagrees with you.

In other words, after 48 mo or 50k miles, you're not eligible for a new vehicle VSA (Vehicle Service Agreement).
