Default Compare to G37

About a month ago, I test drove a 2007 IS350. A day after that I drove Infiniti G37 Coupe and it felt a lot faster and accelerated much quicker than the IS350.

I am just wondering if there was something wrong with the IS350 I drove because people mentioned that IS350 is a faster car. Even on people from G37 forum.

What do you guys think?

I have a 2008 G37S. I've had it for about 2 years now. I test drove the 2010 IS350C and I must say, it feels faster than the G. The G feels more controlled around turns and in braking, (way too much body roll in a stock IS350C) but the acceleration in the 350 definitely seemed faster. And that was with the convertible with all that extra weight!

It probably has a lot to do with the gear ratios and direct fuel injection? No idea honestly, but the G37 is a monstrously heavy car, and that might also play into things.

G37 indeed felt a lot faster.
It planted me into the seat when i pushed gas. I didn't feel that from IS350.

To each their own, I guess. I didn't order an IS350 because it was faster than my G for sure. It felt comparable as any 300+hp car should, and it's just more comfortable :P

The weight for the IS 350 IS 3527 and G37 is 3624. But the hp are 306 vs 330 right. I would guess it would be faster

I agree with this. The G, IMO, is more sport oriented than the IS and you feel it. With that said, feeling faster and being faster are two different things...

The IS350 is mind bogglingly faster than the G37, on the order of .5 seconds to .7 seconds in the quarter mile.

The range of 1/4 mile times for the G37 is 13.7xx to 14.2xx on dragtimes.

The range of 1/4 mile times for the IS350 is 13.2xx to 13.5xx bone stock. It's 13.0xx to 13.2xx with negligible modifications. That's...not trivial.

0 to 60 the IS350 is much much quicker.

Maybe you had traction control on in the IS350 which often destroys performance, you need to have it off and have good traction to get a good result.

It's actually mathematically and physically impossible for the g37 to be faster than the IS350 by numbers alone. The g37 is a pig, being 100 lbs heavier. This difference in weight alone is not made up by the measly added 30 HP.

Then, more importantly, you consider the fact that the final drive ratio for the IS350 is leagues more aggressive than the G37's final drive ratio, and it makes sense why the IS350 is significantly faster. (4.08 to 3.6x, I believe).

Hell, the '08 G35 6mt is also faster than the G37. Infiniti did nothing right with the g37 except perhaps looks which are subjective. I happen to prefer the look of the older g35 coupe if you ask me.

If I was going to get an infiniti, I'd get the faster (fact) and sleeker (my opinion) g35 coupe 6MT over the g37 any day of the week.

Try a tiny roll out and then punch the accelerator in both the IS and the G (in order to eliminate any bad launches due to poor traction). The IS350 definitely feels (and is) much faster to me.

I test drove the IS350 and g37 while I was shopping around, and I had a 335i before this. The only luxury sedan that is an equal to the IS350 in straight line acceleration is the 335i. 08 g35 6mt is close, and g37 falls behind all of those.

With a turbo set up, the g37 can hit 12.8xx ....

Why the "...."

Because the IS350 can hit 12.8xx with intake/exhaust and on slicks... That should tell you something important. Performance in the IS350 is almost purely a function of how much your tires grip. It makes a big *** difference.

Edit: Sorry, I need to give credit where credit is due.

The g37 can hit 12.5xx with a turbo set up, while the IS350 can hit 12.8xx with intake/exhaust and slick tires.

Road and Track cites the g37 coupe sport at 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds.

Road and Track (same source) cites the IS350 at 0 to 60 in 4.9. That's a pretty large margin (.6 seconds)

Edit: It cites the 335i at 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds, which also corroborates what I said about the 335i being a true equal (if not maybe having the slightest of edge) against the IS350.

The g37 unfortunately does not hold a candle to either the IS350 or 335i, though.
