Default AWD Front Differential oil change help

ok, i'm just over my 60K mark to do my maintenance, plugs, diff changes, ect...

i know where the rear differential drain and fill blots are however i'm not to sure where the front differential drain and fill bolts are.

the Manuel says there is a quart of oil in it, however i don't know where. im pretty sure i know where the drain bolt it but the fill bolt i can't see. i don't want to pull the bolt and have fluid come out and no way to refill it.

i was hoping if someone has changed their front diff fluid before or maybe someone has a schematic for it. i know there is a few techs on this forum...so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem, which is why I take mine to the dealer for the diff fluid change. Rear diff change would be very easy.

I downloaded all the .pdf files from the Toyota tech site and I was not able to find this information. If I can do that myself, I will save $$. Thanks, lobux.

Very easy to do, lobuxracer showed you guys where the drain and fill bolts are located. The best way to fill it I would say is get a funel with a long clear hose. Insert the clear hose into the top hole and fill with the recomended fluid untill it starts to pour out of the hole. (I say until the fluid starts to come out the fill hole as most transmissions transfer casses and diffs use this method to know when it's full).

Hey, thanks lobux, that's what i needed. i've been so busy i haven't had the time to do my 60K service yet.

i'm going to run royal purple in both the front and rear differential. i bought a hand pump that fits in bottles to pump fluid out from harbor freight to make my life easier when trying to change it. thanks again

has anyone done this at home? while doing first oil change at 400 miles ;p
was looking at the front diff the spacing in there and looks like a tight tight space for the fill bolt.
could take the fill bolt out mostlikely but putting it back in would be a major pita.

I removed the 2 bolts to move the steering rack around. Then I was able to remove it with the driver wheel off. It's still a PITA to do. You will need a swivel socket. The one that has the size already integrated.

If I remember correctly It's a 14mm. Make sure the socket is properly placed on the bolt before you crank it. The OEM threadlocker is a good product. Good Luck.

Be sure you can loosen the fill plug first. You'll be in a world of hurt if the fill plug is seized and you can only get the drain plug off.

iirc, at least one of those washers is a crush washer and is supposed to be replaced once it's taken off. I can't remember if it's the fill or drain (or both?). part number should be something like 12157-10010
