Who have rock chips on their hood?
#37
I have a few. At month 4, I purchased a Colgan Carbon Fiber car bra. While I know it looks like a flashback from the 70's and 80's, but it has helped to preserve my hood and front for the past 4 years...

How to avoid rockchips
Driver slower on the freeway!!
Seriously. My experience is that if I drive 65 mph on freeway (eg: for a month), I do not get any rockchips. When I driver around 80 mph (for a month), I start to see rockchips. For the days that I really take the car and have fun with it, the rockchips size goes bigger.
but then again YMMV, this is just personal experience for highway in the Bay Area, CA.
I also found that clear bra will not protect you 100% if you have a tendency to drive too fast on the freeway. Eventually, you will get rockchipped clear bra and hood.

Personally, i like my car topless. (in the clear bra sense)
I found out that my driving style reflects the amount of rock chips i get. Driving in the middle lanes tend to reduce the chips, as well as keeping a distance from the cars in front of you.

Got rock chips here and there on my car too after almost a year of ownership. A few on the hood, bumper and side mirror covers and a few odd ones on roof, C pillar and trunk lid!
You will get them from driving on the freeway. It doesn't matter if you drive slow or fast or if you keep distance to the car in front or not. They just find the way to your car.
The paint seems soft and chips easy....
