Question about TPMS Sensors
Hi all, dont know much about cars so i thought i ask you guys. Thinking about buying 19'' rims for my 06 IS350 this year and i was wondering about the TPMS Sensors.
- Is there a way to use the TPMS Sensors that are on the OEM Rims currently on the new rims i purchase? If so, can anyone changing my tires do this or only Lexus? Does Lexus need to configure anything on the sensors for the new rims?
- If i do buy new sensors, do they need to be programmed? If so, can anyone program them?
- is it critical to have sensors on your rims? i might not be car smart, but i can tell if my tire pressure is low. Am i losing out on anything else by not adding these sensors? if its not critical, is there a way to get rid of the lights on the dashboard that will probably light up without the sensors.
Thanks!

Yes you can use the oem sensors from your stockies. However I do not believe Lexus would be able to mount those sensors into your 19"s as I was told by a tech. Take it to a tire shop, have them mount the sensors inside the wheels not on the edge like the stock ones (it will eventually crack). You will need to go back to Lexus and have them programmed to your car.
As of now, I do not have TPMS programmed and I'm driving with the tire pressure light on....it doesnt bother me much but I will be getting it taken care of this week =P

Some aftermarket wheels can accommodate TPMS, some can't (and there's adapters to let you use em on those).
The tire shop can move the sensors from your OE wheels to your new ones, and that will not require reprogramming at the dealer.
If you buy a new set of TPMS then those would need to be programmed to the car by the dealer.
You can not shut the light on the dash off (though there's a few things you can do to work around it, like put the sensors in a pressurized canister in your trunk)
