In CA I believe the statue of limitations is at 4 years for filing a lawsuit against the manufacturer under the Lemon Law.

As far as getting a car buyback, I think it's still set at 3-4 attempted repairs to the vehicle for the same issue to get it taken back under the CA law. Someone told me at least the first repair has to be while it was still under manufacturer warranty (4yr/50k) to have a solid case.

Dropped my car off on Wednesday at the dealership to be checked out for the carbon build-up, just got a call back today from the dealer today that one of the cylinders are miss firing and they will be putting in new pistons.
Is this another sign of carbon build-up?

sounds like it. i had the same issue and i was told that by replacing the pistions and rings the build up shouldn't happen but we will see. Gotta admit though ever since i got my car back it does drive a lot better.

honestly... after a "shot block replacement"

I think the vibration when I'm sitting at a red light in Drive ......... is way worse than it was before bringing it to lexus.

The start up cam gear noise is still there (even though they swear it isnt) and there have been a few times where I STEP on the gas hard and the car hiccups for a second before it goes.

This is why I like my 6 speed camaro for "go" situations... it has an actual metal wire that goes to the throttle....you press the pedal and it goes...

Did they replace all your pistons?

To claim its a lemon over this issue is a bit of a stretch IMO. It's almost like using the lemon law to sue because of a vibration noise in the trunk that they couldn't figure out. It's more of an annoyance than anything. I can't say this issue has ever really affected drivability for me as it's extremely intermittent and only occurs when idling. It's not like cars are stalling when driving 60 on the freeway.

Water injection, premium gas, and some oil that's better than what they use at the dealer, high detergent anyways. I still like those engines, even though a former Toyota tech told me to stay away.

And here I was looking for the next family car that might have the same character as my old SC...

does anyone have a rough estimate of how much it would cost to fix this problem? Im out of warranty and my car is starting to have the shaking issue once in a while.

Via top engine clean or do you mean replacing the pistons with the new ones?

I can look up how much my warrantied top engine clean was billed to Lexus for if you want to know that.

As far as getting pistons replaced, its probably a CRAZY repair bill. lol

Keep in mind that warranty cost is much less than customer pay cost. I worked up an estimate, and customer pay engine rebuild with new pistons and piston rings would cost $9575.

If the cylinder walls have deep scratches, it would also need a short block - $7200. (minus $2050, because new short block comes with pistons & rings)

get a warranty if you are thinking to get a IS 250, an extended warranty is even better.
I have extended warranty covered for 5 yrs from 2011 and 125,000 miles.
