I know I'm reviving a really old thread. I've been getting that annoying cracking sound from the driver's side air vent. I've taken it to the dealer and they removed the vent and placed the felt behind it, but I it didn't fix the problem. I'm trying to figure out how to remove the driver's side air vent but cant get it off. I can't see any tabs for it either like the two central air vents have. I would like to take it off and see if I can see where it's rubbing and possibly place some graphite spray behind the vent. Any advice on getting the driver's side air vent off?

So did you spray it all over the top or just the tabs?

EDIT: Just noticed that this comes in a tube too. Might try that..

I just applied a small amount where there is visible clips or friction between the plastic also on the contact points on the console.... but be VERY careful when you spare on to the console... 1 drip can cause an eye sore

Mega necro bump. Curious if anyone else has done this fix? I also have not a RATTLE like some but this creaking which can only be described like pushing/plastic.. I can recreate it by pushing on various areas on the vents, nav unit, etc.

This crackle and some sort of small buzz at passenger door are the two last sounds i need to eliminate from my 350.

anyone else done this crackle fix with success??

Necrom bump #2. Nobody else?

I actually cannot get my center AC vent out. I am supposed to pull the 4 tabs DOWN but they appear to be like wedged up in there and I cannot get them down. i tried to pry the unit out very carefully and all im able to do is just loosen the trim around the housing and not the ac unit itself.

im pretty sure if i can get that thing out of there and really insulate/felt/rubber all of the various pieces I could make this darn creaking go away

I thought I was the only one.. It **** me to tears hearing it creaking and cracking.

I took my car for the airbag recall 2 weeks ago, not sure what they did, the sound is gone!

Got my airbag fixed and the noise gone.
