Default 3M Double Sided Tape + Roof Spoiler

I currently have a roof spoiler in which one side is starting to come off. It was likely due to water getting under the 3M double tape. I have already taken the roof spoiler off once and redone with 3M double sided tape. I don’t want to take if off again, anyone recommends a compound that I can place under the 3M double sided tape to keep it firm. I don’t want anything that would be impossible to remove off the glass if I decide to remove and re-apply the roof spoiler.

Additionally, I am going to install another roof spoiler on one of my friend IS 350, any recommendation to keep it on? I already know to clean the glass with Windex and alcohol and apply pressure to the roof spoiler and leave it over night to dry and not wash for at least 24 hours.

Thanks

Not sure of any additional compound that you can apply that won't have a negative effect on your rear windshield glass. You are using the industrial strength (holds up to 5lbs) 3M tape right?

When installing it on your friend's IS, I would make two additional suggestions: 1. cleaning the bottom or underneath of the roof spoiler as well, to make sure it is nice and smooth
2. after applying pressure to the roof spoiler let the tape and spoiler sit/bake in the sun for a few days

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head that can be of more help. In the end, you have to realize that the spoiler is only being held on by double sided tape. Eventually, the spoiler will start to come off due to weather, rain, other elements etc. Good luck.

hmm... i installed the spoiler and started driving after 30 min or so .... so far so good.

Make sure you use the red/grey stuff though.... not the foamy white stuff.

Use this....3M (Scotch) Super Heavy Duty tape....bought at Lowes or Home Depot...

Use liberally...dont be cheap with it.

Tape it down so it has time to set in place...preferbly overnight...using painters or masking tape to secure it down so I dont pop up....like this on a TTE lip install...I think you get the picture..

Good luck.

Yup, that is a good brand of double sided tape. I used the same for my roof spoiler.

I just installed a JUN-TW roof spoiler and what I did after installing is look for any gaps from the tape not being flush against the glass and used some black silicone adhesive sealant. Use a small amount only to fill any gaps where the tape may not fit flush against the glass. Make sure you use a product that is compatible with glass and paint such as one of the following...

I got "Amazing Goop Household Glue" (clear color), it seems to work well on glass and can be removed without too much difficulty. Just in installed on my roof spoiler...

Just an update the "Amazing Goop Household Glue" rox.. my roof spoiler is tightly on... and it seems to be water proof.. next time.. after installing the roof spoiler I would recommend using this right away.

You should use strong mounting tape as the others talked about and try urethaning it on!
