New Midpipes installed....funny smell (??)
I had some Invidia mid-pipes put on my 2IS instead of OEM replacements (so much more expensive) while my car was at the shop getting some repairs from a minor accident that caused undercarriage damage. I am noticing a smell am not sure if it is an exhaust fume smell or a general burning smell. It does not seem to be coming from under the hood. I notice no other malfunctions or oddities aside from this smell.
I do not want to immediately complain because perhaps this can happen and it will go away in a day or two? Maybe there is some sort of coating on the fresh pipes that is being burnt off? Maybe such pipes cause the car to omit a strong odor (that would suck and seems unlikely)?
Can anyone offer some input?

Yes, the burnt smell is normal. When I put my midpipes on, I had white smoke coming out of my exhaust. Its the stainless steel breaking in since the midpipes are brand new. Nothing to worry about. It's totally normal and I know how it feels when you smell something burning. I had the burnt smell for about 3 days and after that it was all good!

PHEW!! That's good news and exactly what I hoped to hear. Thanks so much. I did not notice any smells when I had my greddy axle-back installed so this was troubling me. I've been envisioning some pipe half connected, spouting out deadly fumes haha.

How do you like the two together? How much did it open up the sound? And do you get a drone now? I'm thinking about selling my HKS exhaust and getting the Greddy. I have the invidia mids also.

It's substantially louder than with the greddy alone. I have no other combination of exhaust components to compare it to. The low drone is stronger (i like that) and when it's opened up it has a lot of sound for sure. Some might call it raspy. I mostly really like it but there is a small part of me that associates raspy with bad. All in all I'm very pleased.

I had this same issue with my previous car, a VW GTI. I put a full turbo back exhaust on, and after driving it the first time, I smelled that burning smell and freaked out thinking I had forgotten to take the protective films off of the gaskets or something. It is just the S/S breaking in though. I think more specifically, it is a residue left over from the machining and manufacturing of the pipes burning off. For that system, it went away after a week or so.
On a side note, I noticed no smell at all from my F-Sport. It could be that it sits much further back in the system, like Gville350 said.
