There is a Video on Youtube of several races between an IS350 and STI. They tried from different starts and the IS was ahead and very slowly creep-up in each race.

The only race the STI won was when the STI started in Boost after several attempts to do so by “Brake Boosting”. Whatever that means. Both cars waited until the STI obtained full boost before starting (while rolling). The STI pulled ahead at the start by ¾ of a car length but couldn’t pull away. The IS350 started creeping on the STI at the upper speed limits.

This is all dangerous and a waste of time. This racing on the streets in a straight line. Take it to the track and the STI would leave the IS350 over the horizon…..and so would a 100 HP Spec Miata.

Its modulating the brakes and throttle input at the same time during a roll, to keep boost pressure up, without actually accelerating.

Where can i find the routine to turn off the traction control? I have an 07 IS350 and heard of a foot dance you do with the pedal.

In a drag race the only time the nannies hinder the car is when you get tire spin. The traction control engages and cuts the throttle. Once you get traction the nannies have no adverse effect on the run. There is nothing you can do to disable the VDIM, you can only disable the traction and stability control. Unless you are throwing the car into a turn the stability control will not engage, so I don't understand how these systems are a problem.

i only streetrace on empty roads that nobody drives on and are in the middle of nowhere. they are basically like tracks. but be satisfied with the incredibly fast car that the IS350 is. i think it can beat a 335i from 0-60, from my personal experience. it can beat a G35 EASILY. but the 370z is light and fast so i think the IS350 may have a bit of trouble with them. be safe at all times. the speed of your car means nothing if you're dead at the end of the day.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that an IS350 can beat a 335i but it definitely is a beast to be reckoned with. Most people simply do not realize how well it does because of all the comfort creatures it is equipped with.

Or you can just hold the TRAC button down for a few seconds, as described in your owners manual.

As much i love the lexus is350, i absolutly hate the traction control and VDIM (need paddle brake dance to completely turn it off ). i feel like without VDIM turned off, IS350 just cannot beat a lot of these competitors and turning it off on the freeway is impossible. Also, IS350's engine is very hard to mod ( hard to squeeze the extra horsepower out of it ), twin turbo is just tooo much. as much as i love the IS line, i am kind of losing faith.

anybody raced a STI before? who won?

just want to see what you guys think? what are some of your racing experiences? share a few comments?

please don't tell me to go for an IS F, already paying 4k a year for insurance...and broke ( just bragging here DDD)
$4K a year for insurance, and you're out there street-racing?

if you bought the is350 thinking that you can mod it to produce ridiculous amounts of horsepower, then you didn't do your homework. BUT if you bought your is350 to get you from point A to point B in comfort, style, and with a bit more power, then you've done well.

if i were you, i'd be more concerned about your insurance rate and your driving record instead of which cars you can beat in a street race.

I guess you haven't raced many '07-'08 350Zs.

I have and I was not impressed.

On another note, the insurance on the F with my mother as the first driver and me as an occasional driver costs $600 a year. If your insurance costs you nearly $4k a year you're either incredibly young or incredibly stupid - or both, really.

guys, stop giving someboy **** c'mon. he was just asking a question. why don't you just answer it and go about your way, and if you feel compelled to question his driving habits or his tendencies to race, be polite about it. there's no need to call him a dumbass or berate him about it. a simple yes or no would have sufficed

These topics are incredibly pointless. How fast is the IS 350? There are NUMBERS for this. why on earth do you need a separate thread about it.

R&T: 0 to 60 in 4.9, 1/4 in 13.5
dragtimes: optimal quarters low to mid 13s. Few high 12s with light mods

Fast is a completely arbitrary term. If you think fast is 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds and quarters in mid 12s, then this car is not fast.

Perhaps maybe you don't even care about straight line acceleration for your definition of "fast", maybe you are more into how quickly a car can get through a windy course.

It's such an arbitrary and stupid question when the numbers are RIGHT THERE for all to see.

You raced an 07-08 350Z in your IS-F and weren't impressed? That's not really a good comparison to what we were talking about.

An IS350 should not "own" a HR 350Z; their real life numbers are pretty damn close as a matter of fact and it would be a driver's race.
