Default Painting Carbon Fiber

Hey everyone, I'm planning on purchasing a Seibon CF front lip soon, however I would like to paint the lip obsidian in order to match my car. However I have heard that there are some problems with painting CF as the outcome will show that that painted carbon fiber will not exactly match the color of the car. Is this true? And if so has anyone found ways of color matching CF with the color of their car?

why would you buy carbon fiber to paint it? your better off just getting the ings+1 front lip or even a nextmod replica

Several members have painted their CF parts and not reported any paint matching issues. But I agree with the posters on this thread - why would you get a CF part just to paint it? Weight-savings are insignificant compared to the standard kit.

There's no point in getting a CF Front lip to "save" weight when you are actually ADDING weight to the car by adding a lip.....

Just get a Nextmod or INGS+1 Lip and get it painted...

If you crack it in the future, it will be easier to repair it

Seibon isn't even "real" carbon fiber anyways, its only cabron fiber material being glued onto a resin-plastic type shape and clear coated. The only issue with painting CF is those CF where it is made by heat applied molding without clear coat (where the whole part is just basically CF, with elastomer bonds in between the layers). And that type of making "real" CF component is much more expensive and not practical for your typical aftermarket part.

I have a buddy with a 03' MR2 Spyder who painted his CF hood the factory color, and he has had no complaints!

It would look sick if it was painted to match the car, but you can see partial CF weave patterns in the background, like the Ferrari F1.
