3rd Gen IS speculation thread
#51
I wouldn't expect it soon being the convertable is based on the the current design. Plus I fromt what I see the IS is a good seller for Lexus. The design is very far from looking dated. Hell it looks 100x better than the new designs of Acura.

As others have said, likely sometime in 2011 as a 2012 model. Slight chance it could come one year sooner. The first IS ran for five model years, not six (2001-2005). I have high hopes for the new IS. Hope to upgrade to a more powerful base model.

Now, let's not fear this. It's natural to get attached to what we see and have now. Then a new model comes around, just like when the 1IS changed into the 2IS, and everyone gets used to it. Look at how much we love ours now. That love didn't happen instantly one day back in October 2005. It took some time to get used to it and start lusting after it. Same thing will likely happen with the 3IS. We'll be picky when it first debuts, then become followers like we have here. This is an age-old pattern in the auto industry and with enthusiasts. As humans, it's always tough embracing change.
Two cents.

It's going to look different. Look at history. Every redesigned Lexus auto in the past ten years has looked different from the last (IS, ES, GS, LS, SC). Unless Lexus plans on breaking their tradition, don't expect it to look too similar.
