Default IS 350 vs GS 450h...could we win?

I recently found this acceleration video of a GS 450h and damn that thing is ****ing beastly

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbv1i6GvE7s&NR=1

I always thought the 350 could hold its own as far as speed goes against any car in the lexus line up EXCEPT the is-F obviously. The 450h honestly I had put at rank 3 in my mind before all of this (sadly above the SC 430 but it's true)

What do you all think, from a dig would the IS 350 win to 60? If they went to 120+ do you think the GS 450h would pull?

Obviously I am a little biased but I think the 450h could definitely hold its own and maybe even win. Considering how similar their speeds are I think the winner of the race would be the fastest driver not necessarily the fastest car. From a dig, I think the 450h has the advantage because of the massive amount of torque it can dispense from a stop. Though from my own experience, traction can be a huge problem. The 450h also has weight as a disadvantage. At high speeds, I'm 90% the 450h would really take over. Then weight isn't as much of a problem and the 450h has a huge amount of torque to just keep pulling. IMO VERY close....

0-60- very close, IS probably has the lead because of weight
120+ -GS450h territory, I've found passing power to be phenomenal and the car really pulls up top.

I have to admit I LOVE the IS350. It was the first consideration, but when I thought about taking 4 people on a long trip, I realized I really need the extra room. It is an amazing car!

IS350 should beat it in almost all key performance aspects per Road and Track instrumented testing, but not by much.

The GSh felt faster to me than the IS350 when I did some back to back testing at Taste of Lexus. But it could be an illusion considering the larger car's mass gives the feeling of faster acceleration. You don't feel it as much in smaller vehicles. If I recall the brochure, the numbers are nearly the same between the two.

I test drove the 460h and wow was that fast. I never drove a is350 but I have a gs350 and I could feel the difference at every stop and go.

Weight wise at a stop I'd think a is350 would take it, but in the long run the 460h

Why does it show a difference in 0 to 60 and quarter mile times between the 2006 IS 350 and the 2007 IS 350:

2006 Lexus IS 350 0-60 mph 5.0 Quarter mile 13.5

2007 Lexus IS 350 0-60 mph 4.8 Quarter mile 13.3

Is it because for the 2006 they didn't do the "pedal dance" to turn traction control off?

IS350 will take it in a 1/4 mile but anything after 100 MPH, I am pretty sure the GS will catch up

Sounds like a fair assessment to me.

I think from a dig IS 350 would win a little up to 60 or 70 and then at higher speeds like you said the 450h will take over.

Also fizzboy " The GSh felt faster to me than the IS350 when I did some back to back testing at Taste of Lexus. But it could be an illusion considering the larger car's mass gives the feeling of faster acceleration" I know exactly what you mean.

The LS 460 will do 0 to 60 in high 5s usually around 5.8 or so but if you punch it from a dig it feels a little bit faster than that, possibly due to the large weight of the car. I guess the perception of acceleration is in part a function of he momentum (mv) of the vehicle.

There is actually a scientific formula to it, but I'm too old to recall my college courses. But basically yes, the larger the mass, the more g's or force is presented during acceleration. It has everything to do with weight. Like on a motorcylce, you don't feel the swift acceleration as much even though they are fast as hell. Yet some of the uber-SUV's really through you back in the seat.

I've seen variations bigger than this with the IS350. Often it's track conditions (90 plus degrees, high heat being the main culprit).

What's the optimal weather for 0-60? Cool and dry, cool and humid, moderate and dry, moderate and humid, hot and dry, or hot and humid?

I am not the expert on this, but cool is better and probably some humidity too.

Maybe somebody can chime in with more info.

Ok so the 2006 IS 350 has the exact same thing under the hood as the 2007+ IS 350 correct
