Ichiba V2 20MM Spacers - Problem w/ short McGuard Wheel Lock
Hello All,
I have a very typical spacer combo 15MM front and 20MM rear ichiba V2 spacer.
I've been changing different sets of wheels lately and have had some trouble when the tire shop over torqued the lugs. (i should have done it myself.)
Anyway, today, when i swapped to my other set of wheels.. look what i found. 1 near stripped spacer stud and my lock on one wheel was brittle. I did not know what was the cause. Ended up replacing the stud and bought a new lock set. After wrapping everything up with the new lock... the new lock broke!
Fortunately it was the first one.. so i stopped.
I suspected the old man that was working on my car over torqued the lugs, thus pulling the stud more into the spacer. With the increase length of the stud, it broke 2 sets of regular OE locks! Not to mention, he stripped the stud too! He was grasping for air after installing the last wheel. Little did he know he did this much damage to my car.
I ended up buying another set of OEM Long type McGuard locks... and using those for now. I cannot risk having the lock break again!
Please see pics!
From left...
Stripped stud... i knocked out the bad one and bought another stud for $2.09.
middle...
1st regular lock. stud broke through the lock! Lock set at $55.00 from dealer.
right...
2nd regular lock. stud broke the top half off! Lock set at $55.00 from dealer.
NET LOSS: $112.00!!!!
Beware.... Do not over torque your spacers!
Now all i need is a set of OEM Long Lug Nuts. hint hint Joe Z.
