Default First "Major" Repair work with the IS250

Well, I certainly hope that this isn't a sign of things to come with Lexus reliability but here is what's been done so far that spanned over a couple of days:

-Fuel Pipe Replacement (under warranty and under TSIB)
-Front Disc Pads (defect and charged under TSIB)
-Fuel Pressure Regulator (under warranty)

Imagine if I had to pay to get those fixed. That would be an expensive bill. I also threw in an oil change while I was at the dealer. Fortuantely for me, I was given an ES350 loaner which I absolutely love. OMG, that car is fast and roomy. I can't imagine driving the IS350 for that matter. Coming from an IS250, it's a big upgrade.

I certainly hope there will be a repair manual for the new IS coming out this year. It takes usually two years for them to be available.

I've been hearing about these TSIB's for the fuel pipe, fuel pressure regulator, and I heard something about fuel rails?

I love my IS more then any other car I could possibly want... however, I think all these TSIB's that keep popping up from Lexus is an epic fail !

There's more to the recall too. Depend on when your IS was delivered, you may also have problems with the electric power steering assembly and rear brake calipers. It appears that I don't have these problems according to Lexus dealer here in Southern California.

Have you checked the TSB/Recall list of say Ford, Chevy, Nissan?...be thankful you drive such a solid car.

TSIB is technical service information bulliten

And yes, tell the dealer you have excessive front brake dust and you get new, low-dust, pads for free.

And yup, check out the early 00s Ford Focus... it has 4-5 times the number of recalls the 2IS does, to cite one example.

IMHO, none of above are major repair items, especially when covered at zero cost and a decent loaner car is included.

who cares about recalls and TSIBs...people should be worried about parts that fail, which is why I bought a Lexus. I'll take a recall than a part that isn't covered that will fail.

I agree. Out of pocket for recalls and TSIBs is zero dollars.

I just never experienced such a big problem before. Even my 03 Corolla I had before the IS, I never had one single recall or any major issues (aside from oil changes and 30K maintenance). To me, especially with the Lexus brand, it was a big deal for me. The car's only 2 years old and already, I had it in the shop more times than my Corolla in its first two years. I hope you can understand that...
