Default Question with stockies

Right now I have stock 17 inch is250 wheels. I just recently bought a new set of stock is250 18' wheels. My question is what should I do with TPMS? I know i suppose to switch so I don't get the light and how much will the dealer cost? Is there a shop in San Diego that can do it for good price? Also do I need to get alignment if I just switch tires?

Thanks

I think a wheel shop can just un mount your tires and switch over the TPMS and for an alignment i dont think it that drastic to affect anything.

any tire shop should be able to swap out tpms sensors. all you need to do is to find a shop that is willing to dismount and remount two sets of tires.

i don't know if you need an alignment after swapping rims/tires, though...

I opt for an alignment, but should also depend on when you last had one

My car only have about 9k miles. I figure is still new. Also anybody on the forum recommend a reputable shop that doesn't charge like the stealership?

Usually when you put different/new tires on your car, you should get an alignment. Me on the other hand just swaped my 18" stockies for some 18" g-spiders and kept the same tires, so an alignment wasn't necessary.

Americas Tire swaped my stock to g-spiders wheels with no problems whatsoever when transfering over the tpms. They didn't even scratch my wheels.

I upgraded my stock 17 to 18. I got a good deal on my 18's so thinking about putting those on. Another thing is where is the Tpms sensor? I can't even find them.

Reason why I ask because I don't want to go to the the shop and they will charge me arm and leg. or like suggest me do alignment when i don't even need too.

TPMS sensor is the valve stem itself.

Anyway, did you happen to get tires for your 18"s?

I am not sure if it is the same with the 2IS 18's,but some of the wheels i have had in the past does not require removal of tires to access the valve stem. Might just need them to deflate and loosen the tire for reach.

i'd say $100, because that's how much i paid to have my tpms sensors swapped out from my oem 18's to my current set-up.

I would take it to the dealer. The sensors break very easily if they don't now what they're doing, and sometimes, even if they do. We sell tons of sensors to tire shops because they accidentally broke the sensors on a customers car. Hell, even if you're careful, they can still break. Just a tip.

Can you buy another TPMS sensor from the dealer? Like i have two sets of rims stocks and aftermarkets which I change for winter. Is their supposed to be a TPMS sensor on each wheel? Can I just buy a new set of TPMS sensors for the aftermarket wheels or are they just specific to one car?

^^ You can get the sensors (4) from the dealer, but they'll be expensive. Like other posters have mentioned, Ebay is a good option.
