Anyone know why you can't run a staggered setup on the AWD?

You must run the same total diameter wheels front and rear or you'll ruin your differential.

While this is possible with certain very specific staggered setups it's a lot easier to accomplish by just using 4 of the exact same wheels and tires, which is how Lexus ships all AWD 250s from the factory.

If it's your only transportation....and you live in Oregon, I would assume that you have seen snow there and will most likely drive in it....if you're not experienced in driving a RWD car in snow, get the AWD....I live in Washington...we have snow, and the car stays in the garage....it's not my driving I'm worried about, because the RWD IS 350 has the snow traction button...The first statement about your driving habits is true, do you live on a snow and ice hill, go off roading...lol...if you do send photos!

the post above about total wheel diameter is correct
one of acceptable setups for AWD would be 225/40/R18 front and 255/35/R18 rear, which I plan to install when spring comes. but using staggered setup in winter conditions is a very bad idea cus your AWD will transfer torque to the front way too often

so I recomment all around setup for winter and, if you really want to, proper staggered setup for summer

Yeah, that makes sense.

I look forward to seeing some pics once you get the setup installed.

I wonder how wide you can go front/rear on a stock is250 AWD NON-STAGGERED. I'm thinking 8.5 or 9, but 9 is probably pushing it on the front ehh? You would probably have to get tricky with the offsets. I'll search in the wheel/tire forum for the answers though. I don't wanna clutter up this thread with random ?'s etc.

wont be much power diff between awd and rwd... awd if u jus wanta daily commute and not planning to do any mods or stuff like that to it .... rwd if u planning to do stuff...doesn't really matter.. i have the rwd.. jus becuz it was cheaper.. since snow tires > awd in the snow

you can find some nice pics in Aftermarket wheels thread, although there's like 5-10 staggered AWD cars in all those 150 pages

as for me, I simply purchased stock IS250 Sport R18 rims (8 front and 8.5 rear) and planning to go 225/40 front and 255/35 rear so it won't be anything special
