Default Not your typical cupholder question.

Folks, I'm having a dilemma. Has anyone separated the bronze part (as indicated by the arrow) from the rest of the unit? Call me noob, but I've been playing with this thing for 30 mins and can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

hmmm....never tried to take that piece off before. are you taking it off because you want to paint it? or replace it with something else?

On a related note, can you separate the chrome part where the gear shifter moves around in from the rest of the trim? I would like to know if this is possible so that I can take the entire trim off and have it buffed to remove the scratches (possibly even re coated with clear coat)

That's where the star core goes if you want to turn your IS into a transformer

Yes it's possible. You basically need to unclip the spring on the side and remove the gears & teeth on the sides to get that cover off. It's rather tedious work. Make sure you remember exactly the position. OR, if you can find the little "tab" in the middle of that cover you just need to pry it off and leave the other half on the cup holder. So you won't need to remove the gears and what not.

As for the chrome part around the shifter, you need to break the plastic melted points from the bottom, it'll come off. You will need to glue it back on afterwards.
