How to display song title/artist when playing CD
How do I display song title/artist name when playing a CD on a 2006 IS 350 with ML/nav/DVD? Currently, it just displays "CD1 - track 1, track 2, etc".
In the manual, it says to press "text", but I assume that's on models without nav.
Thanks.

This is for CDs that I've bought in a store. I haven't tried any that I've burned myself. Is this common and is there a fix? I would imagine with a Mark Levinson system, the CD information would be displayed. This sucks...when I select "track list", it just shows track1: no data, track2: no data, etc.

no car/or system no matter how expensive will show the artist/song title without the title and song being already written onto the CD so its not lexus' fault but if it is already on the cd then it should have no problem displaying

Artist / track information is not available off a CD - even the store bought. If you have an MP3 of the song, then that information and more can be embedded in the track. When you insert a CD in your computer, iTunes or Windows Media Player goes out to the web to the CDDB at Gracenote, AMG, and other sources to download this information and display for the song you are playing. Until Lexus puts a web connection in (I'm sure it's coming), you'll just have to use MP3's if you want track displays.

Simply not true.
Any CD that has CD TEXT encoded on it will display information on an appropriate player (such as the ones in our cars).
Not all pressed CDs have it, but many do.
Here's a picture of the logo that should appear on the CD if it supports it-

You seem to be confusing CD TEXT with ID3 tags (which is what mp3s generally use)

Very few music CD's have CD text on them. No, not confusing the ID3 tags with text either. The ID3 tags are what is read by the CD player to give you the track information for MP3 files. I rarely use "factory" CD's anymore instead converting to MP3 @ 320 bit rate as you can get far more songs on one CD and not notice a difference in audio quality. These are burned as files so you can put each album in separate directories. Far easier than multiple CD's.

I've just test loaded a previously unplayed 1996 CD on a laptop "not connected" to the Internet. The players I used listed the tracks as Track 1, Track 2, etc... When I connected to the Internet, the tracks were now correctly identified and the Cover Art was displayed. So Gracenote obviously provided this data seamlessly, making it appear it is on the CD, but it is not. When I disconnected again the info was still there, so a small file must be stored on the laptop for future reference.

It has to do with the burning softwear you use, Niro and Roxio are the two that I used and both burn the name into the CD, so it does show up on the screen w/ the name on it. I'm guessing your using Windows Media Player to burn the CDs, I used that one time and the track's names never came up on the screen.

Just make sure when you burn the CD to include CD text. I don't even use third party burning software (use Windows native burning functionality) and the artist's name and song title displays on the screen (non-navigation unit).
