Would it be advantageous to go with 18x8.5 with 235/40/18s in the front?

Default Would it be advantageous to go with 18x8.5 with 235/40/18s in the front?

Sorry if this question seems repetitive. I already bought new tires, so that cannot change
235/40/18s for the front Goodyear Eagle F1 AS
245/40/18s for the Rear Goodyear Eagle F1 AS

I ordered new staggered G-Spider wheels(but can probably get them to change it).

Per Toyotires, 18x8.5 is recommended for 235/40/18s.... should I go with 4 18x8.5 tires? Or stick with the original staggered wheel setup?

I would stay with 18 X 8 the 8.5 will not give you any benifit but it will be heavier & maybe more expensive. I think the extra width is on the inside which could rub

Yeah, I guess I will just stick with the 18x8 for the fronts, it will save me a pound per wheel.

235 is actually the standard size for an 8 inch width wheel in the IS front and you could do it because if you look at the stock tire setup there is a little stretch on the front wheels and no stretch at all on the back wheels it shouldn't be a problem... will there be any advantages.... not really more traction and stability on tracks but unless you do that... there's really not that much difference between the two sizes

Thanks for the help. So you think I should just stick with the 18x8s?

I have looked into it. the 235/40 are 10mm larger than the 225s. So thats 5mm inward and 5mm outward. The 18x8.5s move the rim 5mm more inward. So that is in effect moving the tires 7.5-10mm towards the center of the car(vs 5mm for the 8" wheels).

I guess I will just stick with the 18x8s and avoid the potential rubbing issues and save 1lbs per wheel.

well put this in perspective alot of people have aftermarket wheels anywhere from 18-20" wheels in diameter and anywhere from 8.5-10" wheels in width in the 2gen IS section and are slammed to the ground... i don't think that 10mm will be much to worry about if your stock height

Yeah, but I think those guys have wheels with lower offsets. The G-spiders are 18x8.0 45mm offset for the front and 18x8.5 50mm offset rears.

I already own 235/40/18s for the front. Since I am buying new wheels....Do you think that I would gain any handling advantages by going to 18x8.5 50mm for the front?

Well, I have finalized my order. I am going with the standard staggered set up.

After 3 years, I had enough points from my Lexus pursuits visa to pay for the wheels =)
