Always disconnect the battery and wait 15-20 minutes as the airbag control module stores a battery back-up charge. Chances are, it would not ignite the squib, but safety is always key. Once you remove the plastic housing, the steering wheel shaft is exposed. then the rest is easy. I am not sure why you want to remove it though. Make sure your wheels are straight before removal so when you re-instal, you maintain a straight wheel with the column threads.

pop off the side panels.
you'll need a torx bit with a ratchet extension and arm. the torx screws do not come out. they just loosen.
unscrew and get to the inside. put a towel on the bottom of the wheel so it doesn't get scratched by the back of the airbag.

There's usually 2 bolts holding the airbag in on the sides and one huge nut in the center, its really easy.

Default How to remove lower steering column cover Es300 2002

I have a Lexus 2002 ES300 and I like to know how to remove LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER TRIM. I already took out 3 screws and the upper was easy, but the lower has a one problem, because it has the black plastic latch level and I can't remove the lower cover with that. So, how to takeout that?
