Default Power Steering Out - Help.

I have an 06 IS350 with some mods but none to effect the power steering.

Last night I got in my car to drive a few miles to mcdonalds, the low tire light came on when I started my car (first time it's been on), and I dismissed it as the temperature changing and I didn't need to take care of it on this trip.

When I got back to the parking lot (drove like 10 miles round trip) I passed up a parking spot, so I stopped, put it in reverse and backed up. I then put it into drive and - no power steering.

Took all I had to get it in the parking spot.

Checked it out today, looks like my coolant is below the LOW line, I'm hoping this is the problem... so my question is, can coolant cause the engine to overheat and shut off PS?

I'm guessing this has nothing to do with the low tire.. and this should be covered under the warranty right (I'm at 43k..just had my 40K maintenance a few months back)?

Are you sure you PS went out? Cause this happened to me and you'll know if it did, your steering is incredibly stiff. You have to go to the dealer. This was like a $4k fix

yeah it was definitely impossible to drive.. It took all I had to turn it in the parking spot. 4k.. it's under warranty though right?

H'mm .... Low tire pressure light + hard to turn steering = FLAT TIRE!! Are you sure your front tire isn't flat? Take a pressure gauge and check the pressures.

your car has an electric steering unit, we dont have power steering fluids.

do you have aftermarket HIDs? This happened to one of my friends car, and its because he mounted a balast too close to the electric power steering box and blue that box. it was something like $3k-$4k to fix,.

I know we don't have the fluids, which is why I'm still hoping it's the coolant and the engine got too hot.

I've got Lexus HID's, I haven't messed with the ballast at all other than taking it off to change my parking lights and putting it right back.

Can the power steering fuse blow? I saw in the manual it's in the left box..anyone ever heard of it blowing or going bad?

I would check the fuse - it's a 5 minute thing. Given that I've seen zero power steering failures on this car in the two years or so I've been hanging around here, it's likely not an actual power steering failure.

Of course, there are outways outliers.

u should let your local dealer know and let them determine whats wrong with it... from the looks of it, it doesnt seem as though you messed with anything yourself so i think it should be under warranty no?

Happened to me once too but I was tryin' to jizz out my power steering just to see if it would lose power and it did, haha. I made some hard turns to the left about 1.5 revolutions then right another 1.5 and it suddenly got really weak and felt like it ran outta juice for a bit then was fine again.

This is a known issue with the IS250's in the UK and is covered by warranty. It is a fault with the power steering rack and has to be replaced under warranty

you nailed it. I had it towed to the dealer and they said it needed a new power steering rack. and yes, it is under warranty. Should have it back by Saturday if everything goes well.
