My first fob died prematurely in 2 1/2 months, but its replacement is still going strong 2 years and 7 months later.

Wow, never really thought about it but mine will be 3 years old in December and my car was a demo for a short period of time before I got it (it had 51 miles on it when I bought it).

Going in for LOF Friday maybe I should get it replaced then.

1.5 years and still going. I went and got a pack of batteries (6) so I keep two in my glovebox, two in my briefcase and two at home just in case I ever need them.

Typically when the battery is low the dashboard will tell you before it runs out. It'll say "battery low" to warn you so technically you won't need to buy batteries until it says that

But as always its good to keep a spare in the glovebox and/or at home regardless.

Technically you are worrying about nothing. Even if the battery is totally dead, you get in the car with the key, then hold the fob against the push switch, then start the car. Detailed in the owners' manual. Batteries still age when sitting around, so best to buy new when needed. I always check the date code when I buy batteries to get freshest stock.

Yeah I know we can still start the car without the fob. I was just wondering that's all.

after a little more than 2 and 1/2 years my FOB starting blinking last night. I guess I will take it to the dealer and get it batteried up. I lost my other FOB like two weeks after having the car, so this is serious for me.

The blinking light on the fob means that it is transmitting; it has nothing to do with the condition of the battery. A fob with a fresh battery will start blinking when you bring it near the car.

I still have a great battery. they're about a year and a half old now.

I make it a point to keep the key fob away from my cell phone at all times.

I always keep my fob near my cell phone, ipod, computer, speaker, and pretty much everything else that might "hurt" the battery but I've had no problems.
