Default $1724 for a new windsheild at dealer

CRAZY! I even called my insurance company twice to make sure they would cover the outrageous amount Lexus dealer is charging. They said Yes

I called the people that Lexus is bringing in to do the work and their quote is $380 which is reasonable.

I'm still in shock, it's a frigin piece of glass. Over $1500 plus tax...

yup
that's how much my friend paid for..
and the worst thing is that the window wasn't cracked from outside
it was cracked from INSIDE!!!! but the Dealer won't admit it and said that
it was impossible to crack it from inside..

I called the manager of the dealer to make sure it was right and he said the price of just the glass is $900. I mentioned that the same people contracted to come to the dealership and install the glass charged $380 at their shop and he said it wasn't Lexus/Toyota certified quality product.

The numbers above are a bit off as I got a call and they ordered the wrong windshield as that's for the GS. For our base IS250 with no sensors, it'll only be $1440 installed with tax. What a deal huh???

Make sure you have insurance coverage on your windshield!

Yup! You're pretty much paying for the Lexus print that comes on the glass. Other than that, the OEM windshield is probably no better than one that doesn't have the Lexus print on it.

Most glass is outsourced at dealers and their are three major glass companies. The dealer tacks on a ton of money as usual. Go direct to a glass replacement company. Does not matter if the Lexus logo is on it.

Beware, some generic glass does not fit like OEM. I thought the same, but after I replaced the driver side window in my RX300 with a generic, the window has been a problem. I checked and it is actually thicker than the passenger OEM window. Now of course the window regulator is blown and I have to pay $300 to fix it.

/Rant

IMO, if you are getting insurance to pay for, let them pay the extra $800 for OEM.

Just for kicks, I punched my IS350 with rain sensor into the Safelite auto glass website, and it came back with a quote of $334.95 for plain glass, $449.95 for glass with a green tint band, to replace the front windshield at either their local shop or at my home/business.

After hearing about these ridiculous prices, it makes me more convince that I should install a windshield film to prevent rock chips. Has anyone giving them a try?

just got a quote from safelite for $245 plus tax including labor. I set up an appointment for tomorrow since I have 156k and my windshield looks like sand from the inside. There are so many little chips in it

Two years ago, one month after I bought my IS350, I got a small crack. I had it repaired. Fast forward two years and on its two year anniversary, I got another one. I'm considering just replacing it this time versus fixing.

I was just wondering how satisfied you are with a non-OEM front windshield replacement. Any recommendations on whether I should go OEM or non-OEM? Any other prices to share for either option?

$1440 eh? well....a windshield replacement for a Scion xB (2008-2009) comes to around $1200, installed by a Scion dealer...so $1440 doesn't surprise me...but yes, its high. =/
