It is common for new cars to have poor initial mileage. The engine tolerances are very tight in order to meet emissions requirements and so the engine and driveline friction is initially quite high. Over the first few thousand miles the engine and driveline will wear in a little bit, reduce the friction, and your MPG will gradually improve.

Yes, I agree with the dinging worries. Surprised to see that the IS does not have ding-guards on doors.

it actually depends on which 250 ?? the awd version is much heavier at 3600lbs or so and i guess thats why the mileage isnt as good as it should be. im running at high teens in the city and mid twenties on the hwy

I get 21-22 MPG local and if I drive over 60 miles I can average a little over 30 MPG on the freeway (light traffic going around 75mph). I usually drive around 75% local and 25% freeway and my total tank avg is around 21.5 MPG. Oh yea, this is for the IS350...

Rated at 20/28, which is less than the IS250 slush-o-matic, but basically the same as the IS350 slush-o-matic. I easily get 31+ in highway driving (250, manual trans.). I've never paid much attention to around-town numbers.

On a side update... I just got my first gas card bill since getting the IS 250 and it looks like I'm saving $118 on gas over my 2002 Camry XLE that the IS replaced. SWEET!
