Default XM Signal Fade (Factory XM)

Does anyone have a problem with signal fade with their XM? I have an 07 with NAV and the dealer installed the factory XM module.

Sometimes the XM will start fading in and out and eventually I hear nothing. All other audio modes work (fm, am, cd etc.) The only way I can get it working again is to shut off the car and start the engine again. Turning the radio off and on does nothing.

The dealer said it was strange (I was able to replicate the problem at the dealer), so they replaced the tuner in the trunk with a replacement.

The replacement has only faded once so far, but I can't figure out what's going on.

If you call in the XM 800 number, the IVR system allows you to have them automatically send you a signal again.

Try that...it may/may not help.

sounds like the receiver may be bad or a loose connection somewhere? I don't think its XM at all. I have never had this in any car and I just got one of the portable units and took it on my MTN bike in the forest preserve and I had perfect reception the whole time.

I think you need to take it back to the dealer to have it looked at.

I have a factory-installed XM and never experience this problem. Sure I lose the signal once in a while but that's only a couple of seconds and not to a point where I have to turn the engine off.

Well I should clarify some things. I'm a project engineer for a satellite systems company. The problem I am experiencing we refer to is low ebNo.

I can't see it being the antenna, but I am contemplating removing the trunk liner and hooking up an analyzer to the antenna to check levels. Also when I shut the car off and back on again, the system works again. This tells me the antenna is getting signal. The weird thing is the system will continues to get EPG updates while there is no music.

Since the tuner box was already replaced, the only other thing it could be is the stock NAV HU.

Grr.. I hate dealers messing with my car.

I have a portable unit in my other car for 3 years now and never had this problem.

I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem occur.

I have the identical problem. I've had the car 2 months and it has happened 3-5 times since I got it. I'm struggling with the dealer to get the part replaced to see if it helps. I won't name the dealer at this time, but instead of taking care of me under warranty, they offered to sell me a $60 non OEM part to try to resolve the issue?!?!?

At any rate, you are not the only one.

***I'm still working with them to try to get it resolved under warranty***

Thanks for the reply. I believe it's the tuner. I already had it replaced once, and it's been better so far, but still exhibited the problem once.

Do you also have to shut off the car and turn it back on to get it working again?

It sounds like a warranty issue that Lexus needs to take care of. If they need to replace the Nav/head unit, then so be it. There shouldn't be any struggle from Lexus involved. Shame on Lexus if they don't fix these issues asap, however rare they may be.
I have the Nav/XM radio system, and have had no problems at all (*knocks on wood*).

I have XM on my 06, and have NOT been experiencing this problem. Since you have an 07 I would think that having the sharkfin antenna would get better reception than my trunk mounted nub antenna.

I've had the same issue with my '08. The first incident happened a couple of months ago and the second just happened last week. The only solution I've discovered is to turn the car off and on again. I brought it up with the dealer and they said they would replace the tuner but I haven't taken them up on it yet (it seems more of a pain to drive over to the dealership and use a loaner for the day lol).

Glad I started this thread and I'm not the only one.

I think it's bad tuner design.

I second that. Thanks for starting this thread. I thought I was the only one. I provided the link to the thread to the service people @ the dealership I went to. I figure it will help since they can't reproduce the issue (imagine that). I'm hoping I can get the XM equipment swapped out at my 10K service in hopes it's just a bad part.

Sure enough, the problem happened to me again today, although I was already on the main road and had nowhere to stop to turn the car off and on again on my commute to work. I think I'm going to bring this up with the dealership and have them fix it at my 10k service (2k miles from now, so I figure in about 3 weeks ).

I've been intermittently having the same problem since late 2006, without resolution.

The following thread, which I started a while back, may be helpful:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=255396

I wish there was a way to "reset" the stereo without having to turn off the car.
