I normally don't use the s mode on my 08 is250 but a few days ago I shifted to s mode and nothing happened. It doesn't even display the gear that u r on or nothing. I can press the paddles to up or down shift and nothing happens. Can it b a fuse? If ull got any suggestions or had the same problem please let me know, thanks in advance!

Where are you looking for the display of which gear you are in? If you press the DISP button on the steering wheel it will show you, either in S or in D.

And when you say it does nothing, are you refering to the fact that our paddle shifters are not really shifters? All they really are is gear limiters, meaning they will not allow the trans to shift past a certain number gear. They do not upshift or downshift on command.

No its there for a reason and the tranny is pretty much idiot proff as long as your not redlining on 1st gear for a while! Which i doubt ppl are that stupid!

When u shift to s mode the dash tells u what gear u r in, mine don't even come on or when u have it on s mode the paddles don't work at all

Can you tell whether the gear limiters are working period? Like if you hit the downshift paddle a few times and then start driving, does it still shift into the next gear?

If I shift to s mode nothing happens! It's not coming on at all. The light in the dash that tells u what gear u r in or nothing comes on it stays in auto like u never shifted to s mode. So u can hit the paddles up or down ones on s mode and the car continues driving in auto

Paddle shifters are gear limiters as someone pointed out.

All it does is lock out the remaining gears for use. You should be able to force car to downshift by shifting (-) on the paddle shifter.

For example, My car is currently in 6th gear and I wanted to go 4th. I can do so by "downshifting" or limiting the gear to 4 by tapping twice on the (-) paddle. This will cause the ECU to lockout the 6th and 5th gear on the tranny. But the ECU can still decide to use 4th and 3rd and 2nd and 1st from the tranny.

If you still can't do that with your paddle shifter, then it can be the paddle shifter that bad on the switch side inside the steering wheel or some other issue. If you don't use it that often, save the money and avoid fixing it at dealer.
