I've had that warning come up in my display for about a month, but I never got around at changing the battery.

This last weekend I went for a hike up in the mountains and I left my key fob inside the car - I didnt want to accidentaly loose it up in the mountains and my friends familiy has a house where we parked the car.

However when we got back, my car would not start! I didnt even get the little green light on the start button.....

I opened up the instruction manual, and to my surprise it said that the car cannot be started if the battery is completely dead! So we were pretty much stuck up in the mountains..

I opened the key fob and took the battery out briefly and put it back in, I then held the key fob as near as possible to the start button and this gave me a split second with enough juice to start the car.

needless to say I never shut the car off until I found a gas station that had the appropriate battery I needed.

That's not true, and it's not what the owners manual says. The car can be started even with the battery removed from the fob. You just need to hold the key fob directly against the start button. The fob has a coil in it and will be powered by induced current from a magnetic field generated behind the start button.

Really? My Radio Shack had them (2 in stock) and I bought both - put a spare in the owner's manual pocket in the glove box.

The post you quoted was written 3 1/2 months ago, before Radio Shack added CR1632 to their in-store inventory.

Good info on the dead battery and move the fob up to the start button. Anyway, the battery in my fob went 2.5+ years without having the low battery pop up in the dash. Didn't even think about the battery until someone mentioned it here - that's how much I read the manual. As for the battery, I got mine at fry's for 1.49 each.

The Do-it-yourself maintenance manual shows how to change the battery at page 297. The manual can be downloaded from http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...30#entry324731

I saved a thread early on for replacing a battery in the Key, but now i can't find it.
Can anyone tell me how to replace and which battery I need for the Key?
Thanks!

you have to pull it open, it's a bit tight, but if you try harder, it will come apart. and don't worry, you won't break it, hehe. take the metal key out first, i'm sure you know that. i think it's cr1632? it's hard to find locally where i live, so i just ordered from ebay. got like 5 for 5 bucks.
