Default IS-F Rear Spoiler on 2IS help

Hi,

I recently just bought the ISF rear spoiler from Sewell. Before seeing it, I was planning to shave off the studs on the bottom and just use the double-sided tape that's already there. But once came in, I'm starting to have second thoughts.

The way the bottom is shaped + the thinness of the double-sided tape leads me to believe that the spoiler can be unsafe, and can easily fall off. I would try to cut off all the studs with a dremel, but I don't want to regret it after.

If I leave the studs on, I will therefore have to drill holes through the trunk. Are there markers of where you need to drill on the underside?

How many of you have this rear spoiler, and how many chose to NOT drill holes?

Is the OEM factory double-sided tape strong & thick enough to grab onto the trunk surface?

Sorry I have a lot of questions, but I want to make the right decision from the beginning. Thanks for your help.

This sounds like a question for Joe Z. He is the only member with the IS-F rear spoiler on a ISx50 i think?

I know plenty of people who tape the OEM spoiler on without any problems. The OEM one has even less contact area than the F spoiler

Do it the right way. Drill holes and secure it.

Use the tape, you shouldn't have any problem. You can use 3M double sided tape. Don't drill any hole as you might change your mind later on. Post pix once you have it done...

Gorilla Glue son lol

I'd just go with the tape. Even the Lexon Roof Spoiler (which I'm pretty sure see's more wind) uses just the tape.

Thanks to all who gave me recommendations. It looks like "tape" is beating "drill" for now. But I still need confirmation from an actual owner that installed this wing to seal the deal.

Any pics would also be great. Thanks again.

I would drill....why would the factory put the bolts there in the first place? If Toyota felt the 3m tape was adequete, It would have came without bolts from the factory. That's just my opinion.

Go for drilling it, you will rest assure after installing it the way it was meant to be. You may damage the spolier by shaving it also.

i'm planning on just taping whichever spoiler I end up getting. I'd gladly just tape the F spoiler on but at this point I can't justify spending $400 for that thing. If it were half that price it'd be on the car now.

well there is no place to clip the spoiler on! duhh... or else they would of used one of the many clips to hold the interior together. lol
