Default noobie question on HID lights

Hi all. just got my 250 2 weeks ago. I'm new to "accessorizing", so pardon my ignorance. I want to get HID lights. Is it possible to get HID lights for my low beams, high beams, DRL, and fog lights? I currently have halogen, and this one dealer store I went to said they only do low beams for $250 (I live in southern california) any input is appreciated. Thanks.

all of them are possible. but usual fogs and low beams are bright enough as it is. and also drl bulb is a peanut bulb which is 168/192.

correction the peanut lights are not drl they are part of the parking lights. The DRL are lowered wattage of the high beams.

Luckliy there are a few forum mods might be able to help with the HID question and maybe where to have them done.

You can do all of them llama is the light guru here!

So I guess installing HIDs in the DRL would just **** everyone off.

only if you use your high beams. I dont believe they will even fire up because the drl wattage is so low. they might flicker but wont come on fully.

Yes you can run HID's for your low beams, high beams and fogs. However, you'll need a ballast for all of them and that's a LOT of ballasts. Unless of course you find a singe high powered ballast that can run all of them but I don't think anyone makes such a thing. At least not to my knowledge. If I were you, I'd run HID's for both low beams and fogs. Your high beam acts as your DRL at 50% wattage or so. As with the above post, the DRL may or may not turn on due to the low wattage even with the ballast. Even if it does turn on, chances are the DRL will run as high beam OR continue to run at 50% or so, thus giving the same exact look. If you never use your high beams often aside from flashing people, then just leave it.

I don't know if you've ever installed HID's but it's very simple except for mounting the ballast which you just have to find a place. Other than that, it's a 10 minute job. However, the IS engine compartment is 1) filled with parts and 2) getting to the bulbs MAY require you to things such as the airbox, the covers and maybe the bumper. And then refitting them is...not as easy as removing. Heh. Feel free to read the DIY guide in this forum on HID installs. They have both for low beams and fogs. I'm not so sure by about the high beams but no one really changes those anyway. Good luck

high beams are in the compartment next to the low beams. its actually easier to get to the high beams and city lights then the low beams in my opinion. just need to take the air box and the washer fluid tube and ur set. for the fogs u can take the bumper off or go behind the front fenders where ur front tires are. from there u can access the fogs. there is a DIY from passnu2 with pictures which will explain it better.
