Default A quick question. (about HID foglight and new car warranty)

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting something in a forum, I recently got an IS350 and I was thinking about getting HIDs for my fog lights. I was just wondering will this void the warranty? Because my co-worker told me that, if you install HIDs for the fog lights, it will void everything and it will be useless to take my car to a Lexus dealer for a scheduled maintenance. Is this true? Thanks.

It will not void everything. If you change the fog light it will most likely void the fog light warranty if it condenses or something, but it will not void anything else.

I am sure you will be fine with installing the fog HID's. Only issue members run into is that some bulbs in cheaper kits do not securely fasten into the assembly and can promote moisture. Definitely do not install higher wattage halogen bulbs as they will burn out the harness and leave you with over $1200 in repairs and Lexus will know right away what happened. This happened to a member in MA in the fall.

i'm considering HID fogs as well. however, passnu has said that he heard HID fogs are coming for '09 models of the IS. If that's true, you should wait it out til the 09's come in to see if they fit ours. If it is then you can just pick them up at lexus and replace them.

I'm personally waiting it out and holding the new fogs will be the JDM ones with the LED's and projector. Joe Z has them on. they look beautiful. you can get them now if you want but they're a hefty $1200 or so i think. plus shipping, it's not a cheap mod. hopefully the US specs will bring down the price

I recently checked the prices @ a vendor and the price is up to $1900 now. Having a weak dollar blows

Yeah, I heard to too but I already got an IS350, don't think I want to wait for the 09 to come around see if they got the HID fogs. Going to cost a lot more than to just get HID fogs if JDM fogs does hit the 09's and then I get it from Lexus. 1900 is too much for me since it is just fogs.

Heh, well it won't void your warranty. It'll only void your warranty of a specific part if it is caused by the fogs. Generally speaking, if you install HID fogs and they break, it's the fog unit themselves that break. It shouldn't cause any other problems since they're just running off electricity. In which case the part isn't Lexus so they won't cover it. You'd have to go through your seller. Of course if something does go wrong (which I can't think of anything that could), you can just swap out and put in the new fogs before bringing the car in. Just don't do anything drilling or permanent work.

A member made a DIY on HID fogs and mounted the ballasts inside the bumper. Some people say it is quite a bit of work removing the bumper cover so if you do end up doing the conversion, just a heads up. And if you do, don't forget to post pictures
