2 months ago, Carmax offered me with 49k on the clock $22,100 if I put the stock wheels back on. Only 20,100 if I left my aftermarket on.

Send buyers out to the highway and have them lock the cruise on at 65mph and tell them to check MPG or Tank Avg. At that speed on a flat highway I can maintain 42mpg, but with some minor hills and traffic it falls into the high 30's. I usually lock it in at 80mph and get 29-31 mpg.

So, I ended up taking it to Carmax, and they gave me what I thought was a fair deal. Can't hurt...their appraisal is free, and it only took about 45 minutes.
Makes me wonder if Lexus really pegged the overall demand for the 6MT, even though many CL'ers would prefer it. Maybe it's rare because most people don't want it.

The economy is weak right now, its a really bad time to sell cars unless youre willing to take a hit.

I think the OP should sel his 6MT in the midwest where they seem to be sought after. maybe Cali has an overabundance of them. The OP's car is very nice and it will sell for a fair price without giving it away. Sad to see the economy still suffering with little hope.

The problem is the way Lexus packaged 6MT cars... you had no NAV option and you can't get it in a 350. I know of at least 3 people that passed the 2IS all together because they wanted either NAV, a 350 or both but only wanted a manual car.

Anyway, back on topic for the OP, I'm still putting the word out on a great deal...

I didn't want it because it wasn't available on the IS350, and because the reviews I'd read panned it as clunky and imprecise.

Toyota certainly knows how to engineer a slick shift manual capable of handling the power of the IS350, but I guess they didn't think it would sell well enough to spend the engineering dollars. Some would call it pegging the demand, I'd call it a self-fulfilling prophecy...

Yeah, I have seen you car on Craigslist and in the Classified Section here in the forums.

The market is really slow now plus you have a 6MT which is NOT popular to the general market.

I posted my 2007 IS250 on Craigslist a few days ago. Here is my http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/car/669335364.html

I got one call today that a guy would give me $25k cash. I declined since my car is virtually new.

Here is my clublexus ad.

Have you tried posting it on Autotrader?? If I dont get any hits on here or craigslist then I'm going to post my car on the Autotrader.

Your mileage is definitely on the high side for a 2006, and most people looking for a Lexus don't want a manual transmission. I know the "purists" get nauseated when they hear this, but the truth is that many great sports cars are getting away from manual transmissions in favor of VERY fast and efficient automatics (e.g. ISF, GTR, many Ferraris, etc.). The paddle shifters on many of these cars are way faster than any human could hope to be, and drivetrain losses are becoming less and less.

Anyway, depending on how desperate you are, it might be worth it to just let Carmax buy it. If you're willing to wait it out, then you'll do better in the long run selling on your own. I would go ahead and replace the tires if they're close to gone, though. If I were looking at buying a car with 50k miles for north of $20k, I wouldn't expect to replace the tires soon after. That may be part of what's keeping it in your garage.

Honestly, the packaging was perfect for me (I didn't want NAV, and found even the base car to be very well equipped). I just didn't find the car to be enjoyable to drive, and the clutch noise didn't help any either.

Be patient. If you aren't in a big hurry, don't give it away. The right buyer will come along.
