My IS350 is truely mine now!
It took me over 3 weeks to slowly put 600 miles on my car while driving like a granny. During this whole time the shifting was jerky, unpredictable, and just felt weird. But as soon as the odometer hit 600, I started driving like there's no tomorrow--my normal driving style. One week later, with proper training, my car was finally behaving the way I wanted.
Previously it was upshifting from 1st to 2nd at 2000RPM, and quickly to 3rd, 4th, and 5th. In fact, as soon as I picked up some speed, it would upshift even if I don't depress the accelerator. It was nearly impossible to even hear the engine roar unless I go on the highway.
Now it shifts from 1st to 2nd at 4000-5000RPM, and it stays in 2nd longer, only unshifting to 3rd and higher when necessary. I understand that the PWT ECT mode gives me similar behaviors. But I find that the PWT is too aggressive when it comes to downshifting. It would often downshift even though I want to coast. My custom trained ECU is perfect for me and it knows what I want. It holds 1st and 2nd gears longer but once it gets up to 3rd and higher, it would not downshift unless I go WOT or slow down drastically. When I'm driving on the highway on 6th gear and I suddenly go WOT, it immediately downshifts to 4th for me.
All in all, I'm a happy camper now and there's no need to reset the ECU.
